Big week

We have had some very depressing transfer deadlines with players sold from under our noses. The noises coming from within the club have been pretty honest in that it’s very apparent that we have to sell before we buy, and many players look to be on the block this week.
Charlie Kirk, Jake Forster-Caskey, Alex Gilbey, Craig MacGillivray, Jayden Stockley, Albie Morgan and Sean Clare could all be subject to bids this week. The squad is already paper-thin so making sure we have replacements is the most basic principle.
However status quo would represent an extremely disappointing window with the club’s owner not delivering on not just half-witted promises, but the cardinal criteria of what the fans and manager are deserving off. And that is a healthy and intoxicating promotion challenge.
You can throw at me all the financial arguments of sustainability you want, but a mediocre season with no ambition other than luck of getting out of this league, and with fan engagement at a long-time low, this formula is bonkers.
Possibly come Wednesday night Thomas will come out all guitars blazing and we will be lifted by new faces and keeping those that are vital to any chance of success. We can live in hope.
Will the last fan leaving the stadium please turn the flood lights out, cancel the milk and put the cat out…thank you !!!
Woah. Not too hasty. Can the cat play left back?
We can’t get a shirt, shorts and afford 4 football boots !!!!
Update…
The cat has been snapped up by Sunderland on a free….with free milk and fish every day !!
On a serious note CA….we need to keep the players you mentioned as they are the foundation to our progress…the manager, fans and players are just beginning to show what we can achieve and we need time…I appreciate time is limited but selling will undo progress made so far.
I do support Shadow Play’s suggestion of raising money by moving on Gilbey and Craig Mac. Maybe even JFC. But that budget needs to be reinvested in the squad to improve it.
To be fair to Thomas we do need to get a balanced squad – Alex Gilbey is soaking up a wage and will only make a match squad in a dire injury emergency so he needs to be shipped out. Craig MacGillivray too could be traded on, he’ll leave on a free at the end of the season so we should get some cash, if we can get it, now.
We have spots for three loanees and need some defensive depth and a striker, even at our level proven goal scorers do not come cheap.
We are back to the good old days off being a selling club good youngster going for cut price and good first team players being snapped up by the lower championship teams
Unfortunately I think we don’t have a manger or staff to find that Gary nelson or Andy hunt or John Robinson god forbid sir mendonca
5 years to the premier league well 2 off those years have gone
As I said before TS has kept the club alive but please find someone who knows the club ie mr varney for not just financial help but how this club means so much to the fans and how most of us would be happy mid table in the championship instead of this horrible league 1
On buying cafc I believed TS was going to invest in the club,IE a budget to get out us on out by of this league, perhaps not prem league in 5years,but a good by team who could compete again, sadly cafc have reverted back to being just a selling club again, depressing.lt would appear, there is not a lot of hope for fans. Cafc supporter since 1950, I will of course always be a fan,but it is difficult.
There are some ominous noises coming out of CAFC.
An owner who wants more fans at home matches.
An owner who wants to break even next year.
A manager who admits no new players expected.
A list of current first team players
who could be sold within next 2 weeks
A mid table team according to the bookies.
This is all starting to sounding like the bonkers words coming out of Belgium a couple of years ago.
I wouldn’t be holding my breath. As it stands right now another mediocre season is lurking ever closer. Despite all of TS’s promises I am increasingly feeling let down. We cannot expect to challenge on ‘freebie’ players alone. No player investment…no top 6.
Thursday night not Wednesday.
Yes. I stand corrected. Thank you.
That’s after we play Gillingham in a cup game on Weds eve….I expect Garner will rest some of the squad for this meaningless game.
Where did the Burstow money go? or even the Pope windfall?
Was our last fee paid out really on………..Chuks Aneke.
I think the term re-investment has a different meaning to TS.
Oh and can only ship out those players you mention if someone else is willing to pay their wages
Yes need to out our players with long history of being absent on match days. With same injury problems. We need to be set up and ready for October. 4 games at home 2 away. Then push on ready for the Xmas and New Year where I cannot recall in the 65 years of supporting Charlton never getting maximum points, over the holiday period.
We certainly cannot afford to lose Clare, Morgan and Kirk. I’m happy with Woolacott but we obviously need two goalkeepers. I would not shed a tear if Stockley was sold but we desperately need a capable striker
Sadly all this talk of who comes, who goes is meaningless.
1. We know we have to offload before we can get anyone in.
2. No one is going to pay the sort of wages players like Gilbey, Stockley are on..
3. Ergo no more players coming in. Simples
The best we can hope for are some last minute panic loans.
