Ipswich Town 4 Charlton Athletic 0

A dreadful performance to close a dreadful season. It was a fitting end.
Only an injury time Cheltenham goal meant we finished in 13th, the same as Chris Powell’s 2010/11 season ironically with the same points.
We were already losing 2-0 when the commentary kicked in, so that was a signal for me to go out. By all accounts we saved one of the worst displays to last, a nice thank you from the players to the 2,000 fans that made the trip.
Jacko: “This can happen. It’s the last game of the season. A lot of the lads on the football pitch are uncertain about their futures. I think that showed today. I’ve said that they’ve been giving my everything and when I look back on my tenure they have, but today is a difficult one. A lot of lads in difficult positions. If you lose your little edge that you need, good teams like Ipswich are going to exploit that. A lot of our lads lost their edge today.”

It will be more of the same next season unless we bring in a new team and I am sorry to say a new Manager.
I will not renew my season ticket as things stand but I will still be going to most of the games but I can avoid the cold wet December evening games if we are rubbish.
TS is in the ‘last chance saloon’ He gets it right this close season or he loses the remaining and diminishing support he currently enjoys.
It’s not the owner to blame. I think the sentimental view of the manager must be replaced by a realistic professional. Neil Harris would have been a better choice way back
Neil Harris would never manage Charlton. Thankfully.
Daggs – TS badly needs some support – financial, operational and business-wise.
Another season of mediocrity and who will we blame? Jacko, or perhaps one or two yet to be named managers, Steve Gallen, Jokat, De Souza, the players or the man who hired them all?
Cheer up !!!
We could have faced a relegation game.
There is a desperate need to clear out the dead wood….get in new players with the desire to win and I’m sure the fans will do their usual part to help.
I must praise the groundstaff for providing a fantastic pitch…..and will do again.
Chris LOL That is because very rarely any football played on it by CAFC
Best comment yet JW300
Very good John 😂
“A lot of the lads on the football pitch are uncertain about their futures. I think that showed today”
More pointless drivel from Jackson. Why on earth play them then?
’ll do it my way and I will continue to do it my way” – words that send shivers down my back. He is clueless to any way.
Jackson is the first who should be shown the door, and immediately.
However we all know how the next 3 months pan out – no hope and bob hope, and bob’s just left the building.
Utterly shambolic, highlighted by the fact Burstow was on subs bench – WTF.
Houndal, Exactly and the same diabolical excuses trotter out AGAIN AND AGAIN!!
CA more or less as I advised, the only difference being Kanu wasn’t even given a spot on the bench!
Absolute rubbish, unless players like Pearce, Famewo, Inniss, Adams Gilbey, Lee etc are given the heave ho, it will be no different to next season, as they just aren’t up to it.
Unfortunately Jackson has his favourites who he continues to support no matter what, plus whilst he says he will give younger players coming through a chance, he actually doesn’t!
I fully supported Jackson to become manager, but watching this season, apart from a few games, the performances have mostly been dreadful and we have been more than lucky on many occasion, as we have been outplayed on most of them. So unless there are major changes all round including his one dimensional tactics, we will be in a similar position next year round.
At this present time, I am almost now wishing I hadn’t renewed my season ticket and just waited, like many supporters will now do, to see how the new season starts to pan out. But currently I am totally disillusioned with Jackson & Co and most of the current first team squad!
Time for a new coaching team!!
Ipswich deserved to win today we outplayed Charlton in every way good luck to both teams for next season
Ipswich thoroughly deserved to win Christine. Best of luck to you next season. I have many Ipswich supporting mates, proper club.
It’s all about money. It Thomas Sandgaard does not have the necessary financial resources to stock up the club with a level of talent not yet evident on the pitch this season, he needs to bring in partners who can. This current group of no talent slugs is a total embarrassment to the good name of Charlton Athletic Football Club and this must be corrected immediately! Never have I witnessed such inept, low skilled, pathetic football that we have been provided with this season. Sandgaard has high aspirations to take the team back to the heights. Well, that’s not working too well is it? It’s all there Thomas, you just have to make it happen and it is all about one thing and one thing only and that is your desire and ability to financially step up to the plate. Are you all in or not? If not, sell up and move on.
Ipswich probably also had lads playing yesterday that won’t be at their club next year. I also see the interview with Jackson after the game and heard a lot of laughter coming from the dressing room, hopefully that wasn’t our dressing room!!
Jackson should become a cabinet minister with all the drivel he spouts.
The paucity of the squad before the takeover is a big factor here, one that no one seems to mention. We had had, season after season of selling our best players and that was never going to be turned around in one closed season, despite all the promises and hyperbole.
Now we are in almost exactly the same position that we were sometime ago, at the end of CP’s first season. A total rebuild could work, if we are able to take advantage of it. The tactical acumen of JJ puts that in doubt, however. I recall the same being said about CP before the start of our century plus season, even if it was a minority so, we could be wrong. I doubt it though.
Some very big decisions will have to be made this closed season. It looks as if we are going with JJ as manager, by the messages released from the club. It looks as though the recruitment process, utilised so effectively on previous occasions has been replaced. I suspect that getting these things right, will prove beyond the current ownership, which is sad because I do believe TS is genuine.
Great post Christopher.
I begin wonder if the tactics of playing 3 at the back is the real reason why we are leaving so many spaces in midfield and at the back. I really don’t understand when you are conceding so many goals why we don’t change the system. At this level, to get promoted, success is built from the defence. I am a fan of Johnny but if he rigidly keeps to ‘doing it his way’ I don’t see him lasting as manager. We keep hearing the players are backing him, they certainly didn’t show that with their lethargic display against Ipswich.
Adkins and Robinson were both sticklers for never changing the formation. Mind you, you never knew what you were going to get with Bowyer!
So JJ says “lt’s the last game of the season. A lot of the lads on the football pitch are uncertain about their futures”. It could be argued that one way to remove that uncertainty would be to play with maximum effort and application and secure a contract? Truth is, a lot of these player’s are already at the end of their careers and are stealing a wage quite frankly. Personally, I think JJ has the strategy the wrong way round. With a few games left JJ was saying that the players had an opportunity to show that they wanted to be at Charlton next season. They shouldn’t be in that position to pick and choose. The Club should make that decision based on the performances over the season. Most of the players have been an embarrassment to the Club and to themselves.
