One year on

A year ago yesterday Thomas Sandgaard rode into SE7 like a knight in shining armor with a guitar slung over his shoulder.

It has been a difficult first year for Sandgaard, but I for one would not forego difficult for non-existent, because that is where we were heading under a series of crooks and chancers that followed the negligence of Roland Duchatelet.

Sandgaard has made many positive changes off the pitch, he can have a lot less influence on it, other than making the most important decision of all, the selecting and installing of a manager.

The jury is very much out on that vital decision. Likewise, although he has on paper at least attempted to build an experienced and progressive management team, his own style is a little marmite, and I for one would rather a more diplomatic and unassuming communication style.

Still, communication is communication and we got jack shit from the mad Belgian, and 12 months on Thomas’ smile remains infectious.

He’s a smart man and a smart man will make adjustments, correct errors and learn from his mistakes. There will be tough decisions to make, not only who stands on the touchline, but who he will install as an on-the-ground CEO, because that is a void that needs to be filled.

As tough as it is at the moment watching the team, and despite Duchatelet still owning the keys to crucial assets, we should always be thankful to Thomas to allow us a team to still support.

Happy anniversary Thomas.

Adkins the jury’s not out but he should be! He’s a dinosaur in the modern game, TS has made an error needs to adjust sharpish or else we are in for a long hard season which looks inevitable at the moment.

    • 😂 I was trying to be diplomatic. The game does look to have left Adkins behind since his last successful season in 2012.

    Well said.
Thank you Thomas, but don’t leave it too long for that Taxi for Nigel.

    Agree very well put CA.
Lets just hope Sangaard now realises as he will definately be aware, that mostly all businesses have to move on with the times and Charlton urgently need an up to date manager who doesn’t live and try to survive on past glories!

Love your work CA but, just a small point, armour is spelt thus in the English speaking world (as opposed to the American, or rather US-ian one)..
NA deserves a bit more time, I’d say until late November. We Addicks all crave success after the DuShitelet years but it was never going to be easy rescuing and then resuscitating the dormant Floyd Beast…

    • Thanks Wayne. I blame my American predictive text keyboard for that.

Is that the same guy who once worked at a large school in Burgess Hill, then disappeared to Papua NG?

Crikey, I’ve just seen this in my junk mail. I wondered why you didn’t respond and thought it unlike you. What does chat off-line entail? Maybe it would be easier if I gave you my email address peterliddell@hotmail.com and we could communicate that way. But I am willing to chat offline if it’s possible. Are you back in Blighty? I still have a photo with you in it with a Charlton scarf on – in a staff revue circa 1977 or 8
