Pole dancer

But little dancing in the streets around Floyd Road tonight.

Piotr Parzyszek did sign for the Addicks after passing a medical early morning and travelled to Wigan with the first team squad. Cedric Evina must have been on the bus too, as his loan move to Bradford didn’t materialise, although it might next week.

One man not on the bus was Yann Kermorgant, who did sign for Bournemouth. He left with these words: “I’m a Charlton fan as well. I had a very, very good relationship with the fans and I love them.” He will be missed.

The biggest surprise of today was the departure of Ben Alnwick to Leyton Orient, that was completely out of left field and poses many questions.

Powell signed Alnwick, he put him in the number one spot, Alnwick repaid him, and he has played ahead of Hamer and ahead of Thuram and was in goal on Tuesday night. So why did Powell sell him then? Or was it not his decision?

There are a number of whispers, call them conspiracy theorists if you like, that reckon Duchâtelet was unhappy that Powell played Alnwick over Thuram on Tuesday night, now he is gone leaving the road open for Thuram to start. The clearest indicator that something is awry is that Alnwick has moved to the O’s only until the end of the season, not much security there for the 27-year old.

Nevertheless looking at the respective league positions of the two clubs, some might consider it a good move. The O’s incidentally will be Alnwick’s 12th move.

Thuram remember is only on loan, and Hamer, currently injured, is out of contract in the summer. One would assume Dillon Phillips was also on the bus to Wigan.

We have to move on but with no one else joining, the squad looks just as threadbare. Four players in the match day squad at Donny are no longer at the club and Wilson is suspended. Three have joined, but two of which haven’t played for at least a couple of months. The loan window starts next week but we already have four loanees.

There was some other transfer talk today involving Charlton. Young Standard midfielder Ibrahima Cisse on loan was an early morning shout but a bid in the region of £1m for St Etienne’s Max Gradel still amazes me. The ex-Leeds winger was another West Ham target and was said to be tempted and was in London, but in World Cup year didn’t want to drop down to The Championship. He has 23 caps for the Ivory Coast.

Roland prepared to spend a million quid then on a player, and one that Powell would have coached, this new chapter is nothing but interesting!
