Charlton Athletic 2 Leeds United 1

I have seen mixed reviews of the game yesterday but performance aside it was a big win that has us now looking at nine teams below us above the bottom three.

I knew as soon as Luke Varney came on the scriptwriter was busy changing the storyline, but despite a despair fogging The Valley and my head Jonathan Obika delivered our first injury-time goal of the season from a lovely Wiggins cross and three valuable points were added to the four others gained last week.

10-goal Jackson was again pivotal but I’m focused on Andy Hughes, a huge Leeds’ fan, whose return to the side has been genius by the manager. Identical to last year Hughes role in the team has produced a calming influence on the side that must not be underestimated.

Those Leeds fans showed what they felt about him yesterday, he is one of ours for the present and we should make the most of it.

Powell-ometer: Other than bringing back Hughes throwing on Obika late on showed that he is learning this game quicker than some think.
Elsewhere: Cardiff’s draw at Watford moved them closer to the Premier League, Hull beat Middlesbrough 1-0, Palace were held at home by Barnsley, Forest grabbed another late equaliser at home to Blackpool and Brighton were held again, this time by Leicester. Bolton are waiting in the wings and beat Wolves 2-0 at The Reebok, Birmingham and Millwall was all square as was Huddersfield and Peterborough. Sheffield Wednesday had a big win over Blackburn and Burnley beat Bristol City 3-1.

Really sorry Chicago but we’re back from holiday – so normal service will be resumed for the last 2 home games. I wonder how long it would take to win the champions league if we never went again?
