On with the protests

The 2% will gather again behind the West Stand tomorrow at 2.30 to continue to show their displeasure at how the club is being run by Roland Duchatelet and effectively led by Katrien Meire. My opinion is that fans should continue to express their unhappiness until a more formalized strategy evolves. Nothing obnoxious that Meire can pick holes in but plenty of “We want our Charlton back.” Then onto the game to back the team 100%.

Duchatelet was in SE7 this week, but won’t be staying for tomorrow’s game, either because he is scared, has his socks to put into pairs or maybe he too is boycotting matches like many thousands of others, which is their prerogative but to me says more about our current plight than anything else. Leeds, who are the poster child for football ownership mismanagement will undoubtedly have 3,000 noisy supporters backing them. It could be a tough afternoon.

Park the coaches

With Bolton’s goalkeeping coach Lee Turner (photo) set to join David Martane on Guy Luzon’s coaching staff we are left to wonder when they will have some more players to coach….

Dougie Freedman & Lennie Lawrence took Turner with them when they left Palace for Bolton in 2012. Freedman knew the 50-year old from when he finished his playing career at Southend United. Turner is Scottish but played his football at Ebbsfleet and Margate before moving into coaching with Southend. Former Addicks favourite Andy Hughes is at Bolton and I would expect gave Turner rave reviews of life in SE7.

David Martane is someone we should know more about, because he will probably one day take over from Guy Luzon as head coach. Let’s be honest, that wouldn’t be a surprise would it? Little is known of Martane, who is just 27 years old, so I took it upon myself to find out about him.

Where did they go?

Being a bit of an old sentimentalist I try to follow the fortunes of players that have left the club. I did a little research and tracked down the players that left us at the end of last season, just in case you were wondering like.

We all know that Diego Poyet (West Ham), Ben Hamer (Leicester) and Dorian Dervite (Bolton) decided against new contract offers and increased their already not insignificant wages. Dervite came on as a 2nd half sub for Bolton yesterday and was at fault for Watford’s 3rd goal.

For some of the younger players released finding a new job is a little bit more of a necessity. Of the 15 players that departed The Valley in June, the only players I can find that are yet to have a club are Bradley Jordan and Mark Gower.

Despite being without a head coach/manager or assistant manager Charlton announced the list of players that won’t be offered new contracts this morning. They were:

Kevin Feely

Danny Hollands
Bradley Jordan
Bradley Pritchard

Hollands and Hughes

Players contracts has been a topic of supporter’s conversation all season. Charlton won’t be alone in having a scratch squad left after June 1st, and I am sure there will be a record number of professionals available on free transfers.

With the loan players gone, Charlton have 18 players out of contract plus the coaching team of Alex Dyer, Damian Matthews, Karel Fraeye and Jose Riga all contract-less after June 1st.

Today Andy Hughes officially left the club, this on the back of Danny Green and Danny Hollands also moving on, although these two yet to be confirmed by the club.

Ceddy turns down offer

Wolves this afternoon appointed Kenny Jackett as Head Coach. It’s about the most sensible decision to come out of the Molineux boardroom for some time although I will be interested to see how Jackett works with Head of Football Development and Recruitment Kevin Thelwell and fan’s public enemy No.1 Jez Moxey.

Millwall’s search continues with St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas the bookies favourite and it must have been a bloody big ladder that Brighton walked under as their woes don’t seem to be ending any time soon.

Charlton Athletic 2 Leeds United 1

I have seen mixed reviews of the game yesterday but performance aside it was a big win that has us now looking at nine teams below us above the bottom three.

I knew as soon as Luke Varney came on the scriptwriter was busy changing the storyline, but despite a despair fogging The Valley and my head Jonathan Obika delivered our first injury-time goal of the season from a lovely Wiggins cross and three valuable points were added to the four others gained last week.

Come in no. 15

Andy Hughes and Ben Hamer were the latest new additions to this season’s squad this morning. Hamer’s fee was *shocker* undisclosed and utility man Hughes is a free.

The signing of Hamer poses a lot of questions but I expect Elliot to be cashed in before the transfer deadline, which would be in line with New York Addick’s anticipated investment portfolio of players.
