The best beaches in the World

Recently Trip Advisor listed Bermuda’s Horseshoe Bay as the 8th best beach in the world. I am not really a beach person, even though there is one at the foot of our garden, but I think in years to come one of the abiding memories of having lived here will be Horseshoe Bay.

The beach is the most well known on the island although there are many hidden coves that are equally beautiful, but it is at Horseshoe that the island’s famous pink sand and clear coral filled sea is like no other.

It’s at it’s best in the early morning or evening when as the sun arrives or departs you can christen the pink sand with your own footprints walking one end to the next in between large rocks acting like craggy bookends.

Alternatively you can walk the trail past many little coves and parks divided by coral walls and keep going for a couple of miles until you get to Chaplin Bay.

In the summer Horseshoe is busy with tourists and locals alike and is a hive of activity with beach tennis and volleyball, watersports, film shows, arty sand castle events, music festivals and other entertainment. Or simply sit watch the horizon shimmer in a pink and turquoise hue.

My personal favourite popular beach is Grand Anse in Granada, but for simplicity and seclusion, Mary Beach on Rottnest island near Perth is amazing, and Phra Nang at Krabi is pretty cool too.

Yes, CA, Grenada (neither of us can spell!). I’m currently at Batu Ferrenghi in Penang, which is most definitely not on either our or anyones list I suspect!

And this is my favourite: Jeeva Beloam
in southeast Lombok, some two hours down a track from the nearest paved road.
