Barnsley 0 Charlton Athletic 6

The biggest away win in our 108-year history. Who would have thought it? Powell Out!!

Firstly I feel so happy for the 672 Addicks that were at Oakwell today, a little lot jealous as well, but they will rightly be talking about this day for the rest of their lives. Our record at Barnsley is hardly stellar and I personally think Oakwell is the coldest ground in the country so those that made the journey can feel very righteous.

The Tykes under David Flitcroft have been on a great run (4 defeats in 16 games) and to demolish a side that are fighting for their Championship lives is nothing short of incredible. Then later when they were reduced to 10 and then 9 men, instead of taking the foot of the gas, we just put it further down.

Six goals by six different players in a devastating attacking display and now we are closer to the top 6 than the bottom 3. This season hasn’t been easy but through sheer determination and teamwork by Chris Powell and his players we can look at the league table tonight and the scoreline as we approach the last few weeks of the season and feel rightly proud.

Today a year ago you know we were at Carlisle winning promotion.

Elsewhere: Cardiff need just a point now after beating Forest 3-0, which saw them drop out of the top 6 and be replaced by Bolton who won 2-1 at Bristol City. Hull won at Ipswich and Watford lost at Peterborough, which means that Wolves slip back into the relegation zone after losing at home to Huddersfield. Middlesbrough’s collapse continued as they lost at home to Brighton whilst in the early game Leeds came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday in Brian McDermott’s first game in charge. Blackburn had a big win over Derby and Blackpool overcame Burnley 1-0 in the Lancashire derby.

What a balmy season this has been CA, for most of this season most supporters have only seen a handful of wins at home, and weve been left wondering if the team would be in a relegation scrap.
Then we get this run of form over the last 2 weeks and were only 6 points off the playoffs!, if we make the playoffs I for one will start to believe in miracles.
