Hot chocolate

Charlton Athletic 3 Rochdale 1
Whoopee, a win. Now do I make that four decent performances in a row or have I just eaten too much chocolate? I listened in on Player and unlike normal, it was actually quite enjoyable. Some good individual performances, particularly from Eccleston, Racon and Parrett, plenty of heart and some pleasing passages of play.

Chances of an appeal? Sweet FA

Charlton Athletic 3 Yeovil Town 2
An exciting game at The Valley on Saturday ended with another 3 points after Johnnie Jackson hammered home a 85th minute penalty, after Akpo Sodje was hauled down in the box. Well tickled down anyway.

Paul Huntington was sent off for that challenge (2nd yellow), the same man who ran 60-yards to convince referee Whitestone to send off Christian Dailly for an alleged elbow. I have to say the video clip looks like he led with his arm, even if was lacking intent. I hope the club can find another angle if they are to pursue the FA with an appeal because the FA have a habit of turning their noses up at us. In our favour is that both Yeovil player Sam Williams and manager and ex-Welling United defender Terry Skiverton said it was a clash of heads after the game.

Five star

Peterborough United 1 Charlton Athletic 5
Yesterday I spent the duration of the game sat poolside in the autumn sun sipping on a rum swizzle catching up with an old friend from Chicago. Across the glistening and heated pool was Castle Harbour and lush rolling hills and palm trees.

It’s easy to take Bermuda’s beauty for granted, and I often do, and it’s not very often that I wish I was in Peterborough instead but believe me I would have given anything yesterday to swap my lazy afternoon for standing behind the goal at London Road to witness with my own eyes what 1,358 other Addicks did, everyone of whom will justifiably be talking about this day for a long, long time.

Bring home the Racon

Charlton Athletic 1 Dagenham & Redbridge 0
I was at London Bridge around 5ish last night and I lingered long over the departures board toying with the idea of jumping on a train to SE7 to get my first glimpse of us this season. In the end the fact that getting back to my parents after the game would have been a probable no-no and also that I wanted to spend my last night with my son together, I grabbed a cornish pasty and a coffee and jumped on the train to East Croydon with the other cattle instead.

Sky Sports News was more interested in the last remnants of a dull transfer deadline day than what was happening around the country in the JPT, although we did get a report after about an hour on Therry Racon’s goal and @CAFCofficial did it’s normal top-class job on Twitter.

The league is more important, of course but a cup victory is a rare and welcome occurrence whatever the competiton and 4, 630 believers came out to watch, which was a very credible turnout.
