It’s all gone quiet over there

After Rich Cawley announced on Wednesday that Ben Garner was done and compensation agreed with Swindon there was pretty much a universal sigh of ‘who?’

Now two days later and nothing has been announced Addicks’ fans are now asking ‘what is going on?’

A poor game, but a pretty comfortable win which eases any worries. Takes us 13 points above the drop zone, although Crewe can still catch us 😀.

2-0 up at the break, but we were actually better in the 2nd half. We didn’t really look in any danger as Burton failed to muster a shot on target, although ex-Addick Oshilaja did hit the bar.

There’s a fair number of North American West Coast Addicks, and I got to feel their pain today when the alarm woke me early in San Francisco to sit down to watch the game. The other inconvenience is that after a very satisfactory win it’s possibly a little too early to crack the beers open!

Actually that win was more than satisfying, it was a big win against a side that made it very difficult for us, carved out chances and drew us into an ugly booking-fest match.

What a fantastic win and display last night from Johnnie Jackson’s Addicks. It was a hair on the back of the neck moment when Gilbey ran half the length of the field to jump onto Jacko, Jason and the rest of the coaching staff when he scored the second goal to ease any doubts and lift the roof.

Jacko has set such a high bar that I’m disappointed with that.

The performance was laboured and tired underscored by the possession stats – we had 68% – yet we never showed any real cutting edge especially in the second half, and thus had to make do with a point up on the Lancaster coast.

The difference from just two weeks ago is astonishing.

Jacko has overseen three games, each very different, but the level of performance and commitment has been exceptional. There were so many points in tonight’s game where under Adkins we would have crumbled or given up the ghost, yet this team under the guidance of Jacko is doing exactly what it says on the Charlton tin.

Whatever happens in the future, near or far, I will forever love Johnnie Jackson ❤️.

If Johnnie only gets the one game, then he should know that he did the club and fans proud tonight. He is obviously acutely unaware of what his future entails, but it certainly sounds as if Thomas Sandgaard plans on making a quick decision.

That followed this season’s script didn’t it?

Plenty of huff and puff, the occasional bum off the seat moment, more hands over the eyes moments, saw plenty of the ball, but were sloppy and showed no real goal threat, and then there was another defensive lapse costing a goal.

Gunter has 99 international caps. One of life’s mysteries.

Conor Washington joins the circus

Chatham lad Conor Washington becomes Lee Bowyer and Steve Gallen’s second mid-season signing.

I wonder if the EFL are allowing signings on a case by case basis as long as we keep within our budget and show evidence of a plan to move to a secure ownership?

A lot of out of contract and loan players have moved on and I will be surprised to see us start the season with both Dillon Phillips and Alfie Doughty. Remembering the transfer window doesn’t actually close until October 16th.
