Arthur Okonkwo signs on loan
Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has joined the Addicks on a season long loan.
Following the Thomas Kaminski drama, The club were rumoured to be talking to the Welsh club about the ex-Arsenal youngster. Wages may have been a stumbling block on a permanent, but the 24-year old joins for the season.
Like all goalkeepers, especially young one’s you can read some negative stuff on line about his abilities, but let’s be honest if he were perfect he’d still be at Arsenal and their no. 1.
I think the Nigerian international is a big upgrade on Kaminski, plus he wants to be at the club. He’s a good age and would have played with top level players at Arsenal. Also, which I always feel is important, he has been part of a successful team.
Arthur won promotion from L2 to L1 whilst on loan from Arsenal, and then after signing permanently was promoted to The Championship from L1.
Last season Okonkwo played 44 games for Wrexham, including two against us where he pulled off a couple of unbelievable saves.
His save percentage is high, but his distribution is said to be his weakness. Phil Parkinson dropped him for a couple of games towards the end of last season, and although wildly popular it was clear Wrexham were looking to bring in a new no.1, and Anthony Patterson signed from Sunderland in a reported £8million deal a week ago.
Patterson was on loan at Millwall in the latter half of last season, and I have to say I thought he should’ve saved Cardiff’s late goal on Monday night.
Still, not our problem. Arthur now is and I am excited to see him in a Charlton shirt. Welcome Arthur.
The trouble with a loan of course is you never know what will happen in January. His Wrexham contract does expire next summer.
I wonder if Jones will put Okonkwo straight in on Saturday over Mannion. We have to expect that Kaminski will now be sold or at least loaned to get his salary off the wage bill.

I have rated Okonkwo for a few years now. This is a really positive signing…..maybe things are looking up ! I like Mannion and he will remain as a very good number 2 keeper.
We are having a terrific window. Every incoming is an upgrade. He’s probably worth another 5 points at least.

Will we get anything from Ezri Konsa transfer from Villa to Arsenal?
1% of £60million is a fair bit of cash if we did our paperwork well enough when we transfered hima few years ago?

Not sure. I think we may get a solidarity/ academy training fee. Believe that is a rule.
But, no sell on as it was the time of RD and he just sold for best upfront cash deal.
There was no sell on clause as i understand it . So we sold for 2.5 million , 8 years later he is worth 51 million with add-ons. He went from Brentford for 12million after 1 season.
I don’t think we get the FIFA training academy money either as it’s transfers between English league clubs, but I am not 100% sure. As you say CA , RD went for cash upfront.

As I understand it we got nothing in terms of add-ons when Konsa was sold to Aston Villa from Brentford, that genius Roland accepted a cash upfront fee of £2.5m rather than structure a deal. Supposedly there were offers on the table from a couple of premiership clubs but he went for Brentford’s opportunistic offer. As the sating goes you get what you negotiate – Brentford took advantage of Roland’s short sightedness and he foolishly took the money up front deal. I doubt he’d ever seen Konsa play so I don’t know if he knew what he was giving away.
I also don’t think we qualify for a solidarity fee either as Konsa is being transferred from one English team to another, this only kicks in if he moves to a Scottish or a mainland European club, it’s why we got a transfer fee when Joe Aribo signed for Rangers despite leaving on a free transfer.

A great signing for us…..I was impressed with his performance when we played Wrexham and recently when he played for Nigeria at the Valley in the Unity Games.
I’m.sure Hendo will hone his skills in training so errors can be resolved.
Happy with this overall. Was never convinced by TK – either ability or attitude. Interesting your comment re wages. According to Capology, TK is on £20k per week and AO on £3k per week. If that’s anything like true, maybe it was the transfer fee that stopped it being a permanent deal at this stage – or possibly a bit of caution this time around?
There’s been a lot of conjecture around AO’s salary. No one really knows of course. He was signed as a free agent and you’d have to think he was rewarded with better contracts with promotion.
I understand that TK was the biggest earner last season at Charlton.
