You’re gonna be the one that saves me
What would we do without Harry Kane.
For 75 minutes we were going home. Those brilliant fans would’ve borne witness to one of the all time shocks and an embarrassed FA would’ve had no choice but to pack Thomas Tuchel back to the Hinterland.
Up until late last night I was checking ticket prices on StubHub, I’m an hour’s flight away to Atlanta. I’d been offered all sorts of tickets but decided to keep my powder dry and wait.
Wait for what I thought during a dreadful 1st half, and a not much better 3rd quarter before the advert break.
DR Congo were good, and we had Wissa to thank for keeping us in it, although how VAR failed to give Kane a penalty will be a mystery only known by those in a VAR room in a Dallas suburb.
Our defence has more holes in it than the old England shirt I planned on wearing if I’d gone to the game, Konsa (sadly) and Guehi lack leadership and authority and Spence and Madueke should not have been on the plane in the first place.
In that first 75 minutes we lacked pride and competence, but the subs were good, Gordon played his part, although both he and Rashford look better from the bench. Saka, even half fit should always start over Madueke.
Bellingham dragged his teammates forwards, only he, Rice and Kane looked to have any semblance of what losing meant.
Then came the one-man show of Harry Kane. He is an exceptional footballer and human being. He had no right of scoring that second goal. An incredible finish.
I’d start with Stones on Sunday, for his leadership skills if nothing else. Put Konsa right back. Mexico at the Azteca, what an experience that will be. Tickets on StubHub tonight start at $4,800.

Not impressed in anyway….poor team performance and only Kane and Bellingham shone in a woeful.show….credit to DR Congo who were organised, skillful and tactically good.
Mexico calls and I fear the worst as they will a real threat to our stuttering progress.
I had Mexico down as a good bet for the semis – provided they retained home advantage. That hasn’t changed.
Can’t see us getting past Mexico if last nights performance is anything to go by. Defence was shockingly disjointed, and we struggled to contain Congo’s midfield and wide men. Another performance like that, and we will be packing our bags on Monday.
While I’m moaning …I hate the water-breaks that are ruining the game just to facilitate advertising and no other reason !!!
Also England players singing Wonderwall joining in with fans that’s soooooooo false and not genuine…
I’m backing Cape Verde to rain on someone’s parade 😃
It will have to be a big parade. 🇨🇻 playing the mighty Argentina tomorrow.
I’m.keeing the faith CA…never say never smile 😃
Opps…keeping the faith….I hate predictive text 😃
What is it about wearing an England shirt that turns some of the best English footballers into L1 players?
Declan Rice and Noni Madueke have just won the EPL and played in a European Cup final and yet neither could cross their legs let alone a football. Marcus Rashford is on the books at Man U and has just spent the season at Barcelona and looked like a park player. The Aston Villa lads have just won a European trophy etc. At least with Djed Spence I could see why Spurs had a poor season.
The defence played like a scratch team who had just met each other, who was covering at right back when Spence was marking the centre-half? No one tracked back and then they score at the near post – how does an international keeper get beaten that easily?
Yep, it was a penalty and Jude Bellingham had a couple of shots that another day would have gone in – but we should not have been a goal down and were lucky that Wissa somehow hit the post when it was easier to score. We can’t rely on good luck – things are about to get tough.
We, and that includes the Premier League, no longer play football. We play pass ball. I am sure the players are told whatever you do keep the ball. Scoring a goal is a by product. If we dont score but kept the ball for 75% of the time thats OK. At any given moment, which way are the players facing.I bet most are facing their own goal-how are you going to score like that!!!
