Sheffield Wednesday 1 Charlton Athletic 1

We are such a hard watch. There was absolutely nothing praiseworthy about that, and we were second best all over the pitch.

It is like every game is on a loop and we’ve been playing the same match for weeks. We are simply incapable of taking care of ourselves.

It was good to see Godden start, Clarke and Coady returned and Burke came in for an injured Ramsey. A decent looking line-up, but the first 45 minutes was terrible as Wednesday dictated play and possession and we offered nothing until Godden hit the bar in injury time.

We look shot and have minimal idea of what to do with the ball when we have it, especially when we are in the opposing half. What was our trademark press, and the ability to get after teams has long lost us as we limp into the final fortnight of the season. Nathan Jones’ team is certainly not finishing this season with a flourish.

Wednesday were able to play around us, through us and between us. Our midfield is a real issue despite Docherty’s rallying efforts.

Yet, we got what should’ve been the only goal we needed, because despite their possession, it was tough to see Wednesday scoring.

Godden scored another poacher’s goal in front of the travelling support, and the golf swing celebration looked like it was going to be the picture book story of the game.

We then hit the woodwork following a much missing purposeful run and shot from Carey which bounced off the inside of the post.

Just keep this up Charlton we collectively thought. Right..

I thought we lacked bravery and desire after that, which can rarely be levelled at this lot to be fair.

We were getting deeper and deeper and Jones was planning to make three much needed subs but after a run of corners, Wednesday scored with Mannion’s normally reliable cross catching deserting him.

After that there was a couple of TC runs, one leading to cross too far from Leaburn to meet, and Clarke, who I can’t imagine has ever scored a goal, shot far and wide. A late corner saw Sichenje head over. The Kenyan again looked useful.

Another game ticked off, which might be about the only thing positive to say about today.

🎙️ “Since the Oxford game, it has been that type of performance – lethargic. We just need one top performance and that is what we need.” – Nathan Jones

Just ugly and I still have that sinking feeling, not sure we get another point this season. We have to hope Oxford don’t string the results together, although I’m sure they get 3 off Wednesday.

Pathetic. They bottled it, again. That performance, and similar recent performances, belong to a bottom three side.

Boy oh boy my blood pressure is suffering and we seem devoid of consistency when it was needed today and the poor performances continues….I watched our u21 team against Colchester and every player showed grit and determination for all the game…..sadly our first team let themselves and the fans down.
We all know that despite the gloom and knowing us we probably will get another win on Wednesday….or am.i dreaming again ?

Well done to Matty Godden who at last is showing how good he is and hopefully more to come in our final three games

Very very poor…..today we looked like a bottom three side.Three points would almost certainly have seen us safe……. one doesn’t !! There for the taking and we bottled it. Now, we depend on other results, as I can’t see us getting anything from the last three games !!!

What was that? On our performance today we would struggle in League 2. Time to pray for a miracle!

Sooner or later you are all going to have to face up to reality. Nathan Jones is a clueless half-wit who should be nowhere near our team.
We’re not out of the mire yet. I don’t see us getting another point. We now rely on Leicester not getting three wins and Oxford not getting two wins plus a draw.

    Bookies have
Leicester @1/25 and Oxford @1/5 on to be relegated and us at 20/1 to go down.
    They are rarely wrong!
However,we would all feel better by having a decent performance and at least a point against Ipswich,as I don’t think that we will get much out of the Hull game.

Considering the squad we’ve got, considering that we’ve only got one Championship quality forward who’s started what like two games this season and we’ve scraped 50pts which’ll see us survive…seriously give yourselves a rest and remember where we’ve been the last decade ffs. We’re streets off in terms of experience, budget, quality yet we’ll be here next season. Honestly don’t surprise me no more the stupidity of some of our fan base who genuinely don’t know a gift horse smacking them in the gob. Bring back Dean Holden ffs can’t take no more of this.

Ah yes! the squad we’ve got (sic) Brought in entirely by NJ at a cost of £10 million or so. Then half of them loaned out because they’re either not good enough or NJ has fallen out with them.
If we start next season with NJ at the helm, will he spend another £10 million on duds?
Are you happy for a repeat of this season, crap football, limping to (possible) survival, led by a total chump without the vaguest clue around tactics or how to set up a team.
One goal a game, ten men behind the ball, only use subs to change the game, after the oppo score.
It’s not really all that appealing is it?

Look everyone….keep the faith !!!! Its no good being negative at present ..we all want the club to stay up so its time to make the Valley a fortress the next two games and fans vocally encourage the team…..
    We WILL stay up !!!

Well, we have to face facts: we plainly aren’t good enough at the moment: we just have to hope that we are lucky enough!
Cliffb50 is right, though, in that the team needs our support more than ever now. COYR !!!!!

Results elsewhere worked in our favour – Leicester are surely going down that leaves one team from four to join them and the Owls. We need a point or two to be sure but I think we’re safe. The target at the start of the season was to avoid relegation and that probably has dictated tactics maybe for too long.

For me the end of the season needs to come quickly and a few of our squad need to be moved on and some Championship quality and tested players drafted in with the summer rebuilding programme. Hopefully the players we retain will have gained something from what has been a steep learning curve and come back stronger.

The match wasn’t pretty but again we did enough to win, we scored one goal, hit the post and bar and then concede a soft goal. If Mannion is going to come off his line he has to catch or punch the ball clear . Matty Godden’s goal showed what we’ve been missing – a striker with that nous and calmness in the box.

Oh dear Daggs is at it again, his hatred for NJ would be funny if it wasn’t so sad. Do you realise how ridiculous you sound, you’ve been saying the last few weeks that we won’t get any more points but here we are with another point taking us to 50. Yes our style at the moment isn’t easy on the eye but I’d have taken our position now at the beginning of the season. Perhaps take a holiday in Wales during pre season and get to know them a bit better, they are nice people you know!!

As I suspected my criticism of NJ has dragged his one ‘man’ supporters club ‘Eaststand’ out from under a rock, to leap to his defence, again.

I’m just pointing out how you’re such a glass half empty type of person. You don’t have an ounce of positivity in you and it seems supporting Charlton, if that’s what you think you’re doing, is so un enjoyable then take up knitting or something.

I won’t take lectures from you or anyone as to how I support Charlton Athletic. I’ve been a supporter for 58 years, i suspect that is somewhat longer than you have been alive.
I support the football club, not an individual. I happen to think NJ is not the manager he thinks he is.
I believe we need a new man at the helm. Another season of Jones-ball will drag this club backwards.

Short trip for me to Hillsborough again great support for god sake reward the fans with a performance to shout about, we are definitely in limp mode struggling to find any sort of aggressive play , NJ needs to get them out of this mode we had dykes godden kelman leaburn and Campbell available and we couldn’t finish off the the poorest side in the league, if we stay up big rebuild coyr

Hi CA. Not reading any of the above – except your piece of course!
So – here we are. Two massive home games where we will need the full support of everyone in the ground to help pull those players through. Can I suggest that anyone who cannot manage 90+whatever minutes of all-out positiveness and encouragement, and who cannot mask their nervousness, to bloody well stay at home. The players don’t need you. And neither do I.
    Just saying.

May I cast our minds back 11 moths ago when a hard fought campaign with a decent squad, a manager who chopped and changed players and tactics ended in sheer joy and happiness at Wembley. Within weeks of our joyous moment supporters and bookmakers were already questioning our survival chances. Today Charlton have accumulated 50points with two games and one away with bookmakers offering odds of 20/1 on CAFC being relegated.Although not finished that is a very good achievement. How it has been achieved through many emotional moments, fantastic results home and away against some very experienced and expensive teams is with a manager who has had to come up with a team to combat , with many tactical changes, players not fully fit and many other issues. Obviously there have been mistakes, errors and calamities along the way but we are dealing with human beings.Look at any team to see the ebbs and flows of performance, confidence, personal issues, injuries, social media comments and of course fall outs with the manager. This happens in all clubs and businesses. However I am of the belief that our manager has given his all for Charlton with passion , spirit and finger nail nibbling. He is not the best but no where near the worst that we have had at Charlton in my 68 years of supporting this club. Supporting your club is about just that through the highs and lows. May I suggest to those who are quick and longest to criticise go to another club and you will most likely experience the same as above then understand what it takes to own, manage and play in a professional football club.

Lowest wage budget in the league, we’ve defied the odds, every place above 24th in this league a massive achievement.
Apart from the entitled and deluded doom merchants the club, the team and the fans are together…rising from the abyss takes time and we’re in our way.
All the best all, life could be a lot worse.
