No faint hearts

How we all feeling?

I’m making my way home after being away for 15 of the last 17 days and in that time saw the Addicks in the flesh twice, watched the Watford game on the box, and will be back in front of the small screen on Saturday.

No one ever said it would be easy, but come on 😩.

We simply have to take care of ourselves, there’s plenty of noise below us with Leicester’s points deduction affirmed and West Brom now under the spotlight.

Last night’s results were mixed but six teams remain below us, including Saturday’s opponents, Sheffield Wednesday. Blackburn have now played a game more.

It has been increasingly unpredictable the league this season top and bottom and impossible to pick results.

We’d all hoped that it would ‘be done’ before Saturday’s match, but it isn’t and almost 2,000 Addicks will back the team up at Hillsborough, and it won’t be for the faint-hearted.

Just an ounce of that resilence and character we have shown plenty of in recent times please. Some luck would help too. Coady and Godden to start for me.

I am feeling pretty much as nervous as I did when my wife went into labour with our first son 44 years ago, but thanks for asking!

Saturday’s game has all the hallmarks of a classic banana skin. All three results are genuinely possible. Personally, I believe we only need a point to be safe, but I really don’t want to leave our fate dependent on a West Brom points outcome or on us having to scrape together a result somewhere else.

The Watford match was the first I’ve seen this season, was truly shocked at our lack of quality and the talent difference on the pitch. Hopefully Saturday provides a better result.

If we don’t get a win at Sheff. Weds. we’ll likely be relegated. Only worse performances from those below us would save us. When the chips are down some teams step up, see Portsmouths last two results. Our team seem more likely to collapse.

It will be a challenging game at Hillsborough and they are playing for their future….
We need to step-up and get back to being dominant forcing and disrupting Weds play.
I’ll be tuned in on Saturday with my fingers and toes crossed !!
I’ve even got the Wembly play-off flags out and my Derek Hales mug for my cuppa during the game……wisely my other half is going shopping as she knows me too well as I do get told off for shouting at the screen when we are awful 😃
This league is totally unpredictable and we are too….I’m sure our travelling fans will do their bit too spur us on !!!
    COYRs !!!!!!

Sheffield Wednesday and Portsmouth have had recent good results, and I am waiting for Leicester, who have the quality, to put a late run together. This could very easily go down to the wire away at Swansea, as I can’t see us picking up points against Ipswich or Hull.
Agree with you CA, Coady, Godden (and Clarke) for me, must start against Wednesday.
By the way, I have no qualms about staying up by default !!!!!

Like you and the majority of supporters any way of staying up would be 👍

A lot of commentary on the relegation fight continues to focus only on the bottom 6 and seems not to have realised how we’re getting dragged in. 5 points feels too close, but on the other hand I’m sure it feels like a mountain to Oxford, who still have to play 3 of the play-off contenders.
Perhaps Saturday is critical, certainly a win would pretty much see us safe I think… but on the other hand it would be just like us to lose at Hillsborough and then beat Ipswich!
I’m just praying it’s not still in the balance on the final day. Swansea are my local team here, I know a few Swans fans, and that would all be a bit too much!

We will stay up this season but we will go down next season unless we bring in at least 5 or 6 better quality players .
I will never again have a season ticket for the first division.

This is probably the only game this season that comes with a real sense of pressure. Our good start has allowed us to just stay above the relegation noise, including during that bad spell. Now our senior players need to step up get us over the line for this one.

Coady and Clarke were a big miss in the last game. Can’t quite decide if Godden is worth risking from the start, or as an impact sub…
