Conor Coady joins on loan

As anticipated this morning Conor Coady signed on loan until the end of the season. The experienced ex-England international leaves Wrexham six months after his £2million arrival.

The charismatic 32-year old will bring experience and leadership to a defence that is in desperate need of it.

Coady came through Liverpool’s academy, and played for Sheffield United and Huddersfield before making his name as club captain of Wolves.

At Molineux he played 273 games, won the The Championship and played in the Europa League. It was during that time he won 10 England caps.

He was in the England squad’s for both the 2020 Euros (played in 2021) and the 2022 World Cup. He didn’t get a game in either but it was often reported at the time that his presence in the dressing room in those tournaments was invaluable. He is also a good listen when he’s on the Monday Night Club on 5Live.

Coady had a season at Everton and then at Leicester, and now at Wrexham where his moved looks to have soured.

Coady looks a good move at this time. We need leaders, we need organization, we need accountability and we need cover.

Welcome Conor.

I’m happy with this one for all the reasons that you have mentioned.

Had a conversation with a Millwall fan, who was at the game Saturday, and he was surprised by how slow Gillesphey was, both physically and mentally(his decision making). I think that his confidence is completely shot, and every mistake is being punished. A little time out of the starting eleven won’t be a bad thing for him.

I’m hoping for an addition to the centre midfield before the window closes…

I’ve been out of the loop for couple of days. Looks like the Messiah has hit the panic button, with all the comings and goings.
He must be praying it has the same affect as new year 2024/25.

And we could do with some pace. However, I recognise that if he was the complete package then he wouldn’t be at Charlton. Anyway, all the best, Conor.

Well accordingly, Conor Coady is said to be one of the worst signings Wrexham have made, which would account for why he has only played 6 games at the start. Apart from that, like most of the other players NJ has brought in, he obviously won’t be match fit!

So thought I would check out somemore on his history and found this article where Conor spoke about his time at Leicester after he joined Wrexham. Just look at the last sentance, it sums it up, so will he even manage 6 games, as its not exactly plain sailing at Charlton with NJ at the Helm!

Coady said: “I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn here but Leicester was tough, really tough, people don’t understand how tough it was. Last season I found really hard, I struggle when I’m part of a team that’s not doing great”.

Please put your glasses on and read greenvalley! This is not me speaking, this is the player himself speaking when he was interviewed in his first weeks at Wrexham, commenting on his previous time at Leicester when they were not doing well ” I struggle when I’m part of a team that’s not doing great”.
Surely, that is a warning sign for bringing in any player who says that? It just as bad as bringing in a player who actually implies “I do struggle with injuries”.
If you were going to employ someone for a job within a team structure to hopefully improve the situation and they advised about their previous job experince “I struggle when I am part of a team that aren’t working well together” Would you employ that person?

I like to judge players by first watching them in a Charlton shirt.
He had a bad experience at Wrexham and for what I saw he was struggling in Parky’s set up.. he has lost pace. However i kinda see the sense in signing him, he is a leader and I don’t think he will be bullied by oppos like some of our players.
Is he cover or does he play in a back 3, as that is where he has most effective in his career. Is Ramsey under threat or does he go to right wing back. I still have concerns about our left side.. I assume they are going to await on bell’s return but no idea when that is..hopefully Chambers can play more that 45 minutes .A battling, strong central midfielder is still needed, someone who is strong in the 50/50’s and passes the ball, preferably 6ft as well ! Joe Aribo maybe, on loan ?? Wages I guess would be the issue. I think there’s more movement to follow over the next few days with possible moves for Anderson, Doherty, Berry and Mbick. Maybe all 4 of at least 2.. depending on the incomings, that’s my prediction, so will see how things play out. Got no idea what our starting XI will be for Saturday though! 😀

I struggle to understand how some people get through life with so much negativity.
So far I think this has been a reasonable little squad refresh, will it get us to where we want and need to be, time will tell but here’s to giving it a chance.
Ghilesphey is a top lad and will forever be in our hall of fame but he’s patently not good enough for the Championship and wouldn’t get near a start were it not for our other left sided defenders being crocked.
Apter is quick and can cross a ball but no where near physical enough for the Championship.
Olafe sealed his move on the back of giving Llody the runaround at Stockport away last season but literally can’t hit a barn door.
When your building a Championship squad almost from scratch and having to take a budget constrained punt on L1 players guess what, some won’t work out. Queue the meltdown.
Carey and Bell have been class, Kaminski on his day too but open to opinion, Kelman has got it and I think will prove it.
Personally would still be taking the Mbick dosh if it can be talked up close to 5M and going again for the urgent requirements.
I’m scarred like many others by 5 seasons in L1 and the sh!te that went before so I do kinda err on the side of glass half full, my bad.

Thanks Steve for some positivity! If you’d have told us 1 or 2 seasons ago we’d be signing Conor Coady on loan at the end of the January transfer window whilst sitting outside the Championship relegation zone, then guess what? I’d have been happy. Lighten up everyone!

Love this response. Bang on. First time I’ve commented, but there’s a lot of reaction on here based on personal dislike, or the team not meeting an idealistic expectation.

From my point of view we have a squad, pitched against some good sides, trying to come out of it in the same league we started. Knee jerk reactions rarely works.

It’s not about being glass half full, it’s about enjoying the adventure. And given the last few years we’re not in a bad place. The signings generally make sense, but we clearly can’t sign perfection. That doesn’t even work for the big clubs.

Been watching Charlton for a fair while and it has been an adventure.

Red army I’d love to see Joe back at this club on loan but last month NJ said I worked with him at Southampton and he is not the sort of player I’m looking at ie someone who has pace and can score goals midfield or as we are beginning to work out didn’t get on mr jones
I’m happy we have signed Conor on loan even though the messiah doesn’t like loans
Bree was a loan so was the other left back that has just left after not playing one game
I’m gutted for apter he seemed a good player when he was played in his preferred position and Chicago addict is so right when he said we have signed players from clubs that didn’t get promoted from league one or players that got relegated from the championship correct me if I’m wrong but JRC is the only player from a championship club that is still in the championship
We are a league one club trying to establish ourselves as a championship club but I’ve never called for the messiah to be sacked but there is something I don’t like about him he comes across as he thinks he is the modern day Brian clough and he should win a Oscar for the touch line performance he gives when the cameras are there I don’t think sacking him will help as what other managers are out there but he needs to get his head out of his arse and change the tatics and the way we play we had a great start to the season but we do miss bell in defence it does make a difference when key players are out I got pelters in here when I said I didn’t know anything about the players we signed at the start of the season but I think they were pretty good it’s just the fact we haven’t used them in the correct positions and that’s down to injuries and the manager and he needs to swallow his pride if he wants most of the fans still backing him not to change there mind

Danny you are spot on i used to like NJ but he does seem to fall out the players frequently he needs to stop playing players in positions there not used to Apter is a really good player in his usual position you only have to look at September for that. He then plays home out of position for a couple of games he than had a couple of shockers and then he is out of the team,NJ done it at southampton, stoke and Luton now he us doing it here as well..

Wow CA. I didn’t expect to have to make a list of new names to learn half way through the season! We needed help for sure but I worry about how quickly they can all get to know each other on the pitch. Amazing how all the experts out there have such different opinions on each and every player. We will stay up if all the squad works their socks off AND the fans get behind them instead of all this negativity. Thankfully social media is only a handful of voices.

The negativity and moaning particularly on into the valley is ridiculous. The same people who were chanting NJ’s name a few months ago are now calling for him to be sacked. Some fans are so fickle. They need to give the boys a chance and stop trying to play manager because they don’t have a clue what really goes on behind the scenes. Fans like this are the reason club’s are sacking their managers every 5 minutes

They don’t seem to understand it’s a very different league to League 1 and we were always gonna be fighting to stay up. See how the new players do first and then if NJ and the management/scouting team have made mistakes they have to stick by those mistakes. Some “fans” are jumping on them before they’ve even tried!

Coady will be a solid, experienced signing who will help in lots of ways I’m sure. When was the last time we signed an ex England international! Some “fans” need a reality check
