Mbick offers received

Brighton & Hove Albion’s algorithmic way of signing young players from across the globe has taken them to young Micah Mbick.

This month Charlton have turned down two bids from the Sussex club, the latest totalling £3.5m, £2.5million of that being up front.

Brighton’s story is one to keep every regular fan’s dreams alive. I remember like yesterday going to the Withdean where the pitch was a mile from the terraces. Then, throwing some money in a bucket to help their supporter’s fight off dodgy owners and also in 1997 watching Steve Gritt save them from relegation to non-league.

The way Brighton recruit young players is some of the best in the world, and they eek real value out of players when they come to sell them.

Not to the extent of Chelsea, but Brighton do stockpile young players, and Mbick would probably settle into their U21 squad, be evaluated and then sent out on loan.

The 19-year has never played a Championship game, and I am pleased he will see out the season at Colchester where he has scored 8 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions, but it has been his all round play, intelligence and strength that has the scouts watching him.

I am glad we’ve turned down the bids and we should keep doing so, as those offers will only get higher.

The Addicks are in a good spot with regard to Mbick’s contract. He signed a new deal in July until the summer of 2028 with the option of an extra 12 months.

Would be disappointing if he was sold at this juncture before we even get the chance to see him play regularly.

It is an interesting development.. striker’s potential is one thing and delivering is another..look at Mason Burstow as an example. It would be good business to reject bids but I guess if a significant higher amount is made a business decision has to made. Can that money be used to strengthen our current squad.
Leaving him at Colchester is the best call as clearly he is developing his skills and gameplay. Thing is that these rumours and bids turn heads and players get jumpy when a PL club comes sniffing around. Every professional footballer wants to play at the highest level and if that opportunity comes around once who would not want to take that. He may get loaned out for them but the wages would be higher and the opportunity to play in the PL is tantalising nearer.
I hope he stays and develops further with us .. but you can see this not going away during this transfer window.

That is good money for a player who is young and still unproven, but I would like to see us hang on to young homegrown talent.

Same here Andy but I do I think if an offer would come in about £5m we could take it and how long does it take to develop a plsyer nowadays like mbick casey and kanu wasn’t scott parker shelvey and konchesky all well below the age of 18 when they started?

If there is any truth in this rumour, I would rip Brightons hand off at 3-4 million. Provided the money was available to buy players now and not just squirreled away.

As we are experiencing it’s a big leap from League One to the Championship and players like Miles Leaburn, TC, Karoy Anderson etc are struggling to make that jump. As Curbs often points out the Championship is really a second division of the premier league.

We need to be wary about bringing Micah Mbick back and see him struggle so I’d leave him at Colchester where he’s gaining experience and skill.

We don’t need to sell him just yet – he’s under contract for the rest of the decade, someone though needs to outline a career path for him.
