Stronger and wiser
Talking Point 🗣️
The fog is taking a time to clear, but mostly because I had to endure a long journey back from Bermuda last night and I have to prepare for another early flight in the morning.
I woke this morning not only to the sad news about Ricky Hatton but also that Chris Wilder has replaced Ruben Selles as Blades’ manager. I mean, that’s not a surprise to anyone but we can now expect a whole different atmosphere up there on Saturday.
I hope that we manage those early game stages better than we did against QPR.
Onto yesterday then. I haven’t had the chance to really read or listen to many other opinions, but I like to take the positives and when it comes to that lot, there were many good things to takeaway.
Firstly we didn’t lose, which means they can’t swipe all six points of us this season. Secondly, and this is really important. We were really up for it. So much more than they were in the first 45 minutes. That has not been the case on many piteous days.
Next, we played well. We know our team’s limitations and that has mostly to do with the division’s opponents, but we were other than for a couple of moments, the best version of ourselves.
The Valley rocked and the noise from home areas was loudly received on the box, and I’m told it was electricity charged in the stadium. These are the games and days we’ve craved.
It was a great occasion, marred sadly by some trouble, where the club themselves need to take a long hard look at their crowd control arrangements. We are the only football team I know of that inconvenience their own fans.
It was a great occasion though and we came through it disappointed, again, but we’ll grow stronger and wiser for the experience.

Yes, it felt like a defeat on Saturday and still does, but we could have really lost it with that other very late chance.
I could not pick up the game or any game as the streams seem to be nonexistent and yes every game CAFC have been well into all the games and yes including the QPR game (apart from the last 15 to 20 minutes and rings a bell?) and now look at them
Heard Jones’ comments and on the one hand, to me at least, he put Ramsey under the bus and then stated he will learn as all the others too
Yes, we do not get points for playing some nice football and again a huge worry about our so-called goal-scoring strikers and the same the last 2 seasons with Godden and May taking several weeks to score their first league goal and here is hoping.
This term gets to me” we are waiting for several to come up to speed” but how long must we wait?
Also, we are badly missing Godden and we wonder if he comes back the same player as last year.
There are 2 outstanding players from our signings Apter and Carey, and ironically the latter did not cost a hefty transfer fee who are performing.
Yes, others have played well in patches and some Ramsey and Jones been very good also.
So, we have Wilder back and we know United will be fired up and has all the hallmarks of the QPR game!!)
The worst possible time to play them, and in the past CAFC love to give struggling teams a hand or gifts, but just maybe this time.

Totally agree your comments about Apter and Carey, but I would also add Amari Bell, another free transfer. Still not convinced that Kaminski is better than Mannion, pity he could not parry the shot wide rather than in front allowing Millwall to score.
John, the AIS Monomax package has coverage of certain Championship games as well as the EPL. The match might have been on there on Saturday. I’m on the UK now so I’m only going by what others have told me so if I’m wrong let me know.
Think only on mobile and only got home computer.
Thanks Bangkokaddick, and yes getting extremely difficult to get any streams and the Authorities are clamping down and also getting messages “not available in your country”
Just like Talk Sport commentary,
Hi CA, yes I thought we played well and definitely deserved to win. TC had his best game this season and a real threat. Apter and Carey standing out and the team as a whole doing well. However, we just need a bit of composure up front, some players shooting when they should pass and others passing when they should shoot, hence why we need Godden back as soon as possible. If we can maintain our current progress, we will stay up. Look at Wrexham and all their money, not doing too well at present. COYR’s
The trouble inside the Valley was predictably Millwall on Millwall, or blue on blue as the US military term it.
It seems a Millwall fan in the East stand decided to join his fellow fans in the Jimmy Seed to celebrate their goal only the Millwall fans there thought he was a Charlton fan and beat him up.
Proof that we aren’t dealing with the best and brightest in South London.
One negative in the few games is can somebody step forward and take a dead ball situation ie : corner or free kick and put it in an area where we look dangerous ?
Last season we had Gilbert on loan and we scored a few goals from his deliveries.Gary G
Agree with that Gary.
