Quiet week in some parts
It’s been a quiet week in our corner of South London, less so in the south of Sheffield where Chris Wilder’s return is getting all of the media attention.
We can, as Nathan Jones would say, only affect things that we can control, and after their stuffing at Ipswich a reaction was probably going to come anyway.
There has been a lot of turmoil at Bramall Lane and Wilder has to deal with 14 new players since he was last there a few months ago, many signed last minute in the window. Selles and Wilder also play a wildly different way.
I always wished that he’d had joined us in 2016, but times change and The Blades are also under new American ownership whose decision making has had a very inauspicious start including sacking him in the first place.
1,500 or so Addicks will travel up to Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon and will make their encouragement loudly known in what will be another electric Championship atmosphere.
There was some news today. Jones told us that Luke Berry, Will Mannion and Matt Godden are all a week closer to fitness…. makes me laugh when he says that, but the real news was that Karoy Anderson signed an extension to his contract.
The 20-year old has been at Charlton since he was 8, and has signed for a further year. I expect to see Karoy back on the bench Saturday.

Common sense tells me to hold off worrying until we are ten games in. But wily Wilder we will be totally prepared for the system we play and will have a plan. That’s my only little quibble with NJ. His team selection, formation and tactics are very predictable….5 points from 5 games is okay, but 5 from 6 will have me jittery. I’ll take a point right now.
Congrats to Anderson on the extension. One of our own….
