Not a hint of transfer news, nada but The Valley pitch has had its top soil removed and is having some remedial work to help the artificial fibres knit better with the natural grass, and the new Bluewater shop opens tomorrow. Oh and the 2025/26 Championship fixtures are due to be dropped tomorrow at noon.

However, I know we are all gearing up for the new season, but let’s not forget what happened a month ago today.

I still wake singing ‘Godden Again’ much to the trying-to-lie-in-other-half’s annoyance. Before I go to bed I find myself surfing Wembley videos and photos from the worldwide web that I still hadn’t seen before.

Before we get wrapped up in the transfer window and what a tough start or finish we have, let us not forget that Sunday afternoon at Wembley a month ago. What a day to treasure it was.

I wrote that night over a glass of red sat on my own in a hotel bar at London Bridge that those kind of days do not come along very often, and when they do you have to soak it in. I am still soaking in it.

It was an incredulous final six months of the season, and whilst we have to step up quickly to The Championship and hope that we have greater ambitions and plans than last time, plus not forgetting better luck, we must continue to remember that day a month ago, and how bloody great we are when we all come together.

COYA.

Likewise CA still soaking it in, brings a smile to my face everyday although the missus ain’t to happy with the commemorative tattoos that I committed to in March if we did it and true to my word, now adorn each upper arm lol.
Transfers will come but out of the blue I suspect, really get the sense it’s action not words now.
Enjoy the rest of the summer mate and stress free times hopefully…before we do it all again!

I totally agree with both your sentiments. On pain of death, or something worse, I am now only allowed to sing Charlton songs in the shower and only then if my wife is already awake.

I am afraid that being at Wembley in 1998 is still my best Charlton time and the atmosphere at The Valley on semi-final night was probably better than at the final, due to size and accoustics, but Wembley 2025 was magnificent.

Let’s hope that the team gets the support that it deserves throughout what could be a very difficult season for us.

Yep, agree with all above. Am still basking in the knowledge we are again a Championship club. Not too worried about the lack of incomings at the moment, as most contracts end on the last day of June. NJ’s wanted list hopefully will see daylight in July. COYR’s

Thanks CA. We buried my brother Will, who lived near to Bluewater yesterday. He was only 66, and he was too nervous to wtach the game at Wembley. When he saw we we had won, he said” I think I”ll have a glass of Champagne”. He died on 28th May. We played He ain’t heavy by the Hollies as he was carried out of the church, which was packed. He loved Charlton and Abva
