More fish to fry

Talking Point 🗣️

Addicks have had better Saturdays. Yesterday was a turgid day all round which I don’t need to remind you.

Yet, in times like these I remind myself of what Curbs would say. Don’t get too high on the highs and too low on the lows.

On Monday evening we were world beaters, last night the same world was ending.

I was someone who thought second place was out of reach. So many permutations and favours had to fall into place involving numerous games, teams and weeks. To get to this point alone was quite an achievement.

To qualify for the play-off’s with three games left is an achievement bearing in mind where we came from. That run, one win in nine, through October, November and early December did for us.

Birmingham, Wrexham and Wycombe were so far clear of the rest of the promotion challengers, and to reel them in like we did underlines the run that we have been on.

Now to breathe new energy and life into the players and continue with the siege mentality that has brought us to this point.

With mentality we need fitness and Dr Will Abbott and the medical team need to work some magic between now and Saturday 10th May. I’d be happy not to see Lloyd Jones, Luke Berry and Thierry Small until that day.

Lloyd Jones was named tonight in the EFL League One team of the season.

I’m also putting a positive spin on the fact that we knew our fate yesterday and it didn’t go to the final day and then we suffer the disappointment a week before the play-off’s start. Next Saturday should be all about getting us ready for the play-off’s and re-establishing goals.

Let’s shake it off, we have a lot more fish to fry. 🐠

definitely shaken off. Personally I Don’t want any of my boys playing any game if they need pain killing injections to get through 90 minutes. You should listen to Andre agassi on the subject and the long term damage it does. Not in my name. We will do it the right way next season.

I’m sure most of us thought that automatic promotion was probably a step too far this season, even bearing in mind the super late run that we have been on. Personally I was more gutted about our performance on the day on Saturday. But, if there was an ulterior motive by the back room staff to surrender the game for the sake of having a fully fit squad for the play-offs,then it may be a decision that gets us promoted. So COYR’s.

I totally agree with everything you said there CA and had thought myself that it was a good job this wasn’t our last league game before the play offs which would have been a deep hole to immediately try and climb out of! Our first eleven are a match for anyone, as has been proved it’s now a question of how many of that eleven we can get back on the 10th! COYA

A win on Saturday was still no guarantee of automatic promotion – if Wrexham win their last game then they would have pipped us.

The downside to the end of the season is that we’ve had to keep playing our best starting XI and that means a few players who needed a weekend off have had to keep going and possibly a few minor injuries have become bigger issues.

Hopefully NJ will rest a few players for Burton next week – Lloyd Jones, TC and maybe Matt Godden look like they need to be allowed to refresh and maybe Luke Berry too. If we can give some minutes to DK, Micah Mbick, Alex Mitchell and Karoy Anderson then they’ll have more match sharpness for the post season matches. Maybe Gassan Ahadme could start?

We have two hard games coming up in the play-offs semis, currently it looks likely we’ll be playing Stockport who are the most physical of the four teams left standing, lets make sure our key players are fresh for that.

I have to agree that we need to the obvious and protect Jones,Small and Berry and get them fit for the play-offs,and let’s face Saturdays game should not feature them in the squad unless they need a run out.

We know how good we can be and getting everyone fit as possible for games after Saturday…..

If only we could get Killer Hales back playing 😃
