Drama

I’m sat watching the Oscars but frankly none of this lot has the drama of yesterday’s injury time.

Addicks all over have been reaching for the record books and trawling their memories today to see if there was ever a time that we’ve come back from a losing position to win in added on time before.

The Leeds play-off game, Norwich at Selhurst in the Full Members semi-final, another Norwich game in 1997 when we scored two late goals to draw 4-4, and the more recent 4-4 at home to Ipswich when it was 2-2 at the end of 90 mins, but they raced into a 4-2 lead before Terell Thomas scored on 96 minutes and them famously Dobbo headed in a 99 minute equalizer.

But to come back to win in injury time from losing? Back in the old days injury time was rarely played, so it has to be a new phenomenon and we have liked a late goal this season.

I always thought that good teams score late goals, injury time winners seem to be proprietary to the bigger clubs, but they only come with sheer will, fitness and determination.

It was one for the books in that away end, still in there singing 20 minutes after the whistle, and incredible scenes and noise to tell tales about for a long time.

We are back at it Tuesday in another pivotal week. Keep believing, Addicks.

In recent seasons, it always seemed like we were the ones conceding late goals and dropping points, so it’s nice to be scoring last minute winners.

Our glory moments could be written on the back of a stamp – winning the FA Cup and the Guinness Soccer Six tournament and that’s it.

We get our moments from promotion campaigns, play-off Finals and then there are matches like Saturday which barely register on the wider footballing Richter scale but mean so much more to a small, but I like to think discerning, group of fans.

I don’t know where this season will take us and there’s much to play for, but things are beginning to feel like 2019 again, we have a group of players that are gelling together and hitting peak form at the right point in the season. There’s even some talk of an automatic promotion spot being up for grabs. Who’d have thought that last December?

I haven’t seen this level of fitness, energy and just sheer confidence in a Charlton side for a long time. The pile-on after Kayne Ramsay scored summed up the spirit in the team with Will Mannion sprinting the length of the pitch to join in and then the fans celebrating for 20 minutes after the final whistle.
