Preston North End 2 Charlton Athletic 1

A gutsy performance up at Preston tonight, and we were unlucky to lose.

Two defensive lapses allowed them to score from their only two shots on target and a brilliant save at the death from an Aneke header prevented another 30 minutes play.

We were the better side in the first half but had to come from behind after Alex Mitchell’s wayward pass to Mannion let their striker in to score, yet we stormed back into it after great work by Small, who laid the ball into Berry’s path to equalize.

Unfortunately PNE scored right after the break from a corner, which was poorly defended.

That’s how it stayed, but it was another good performance from individuals – Small should be singled out for special praise – and the team overall, who played against a side from a league higher, with real threat and purpose.

That’s it for another cup season, at least we made it to January, but we have not reached a FA Cup 4th round since that Quarter Final run under Chris Powell over a decade ago.

🎙️“Created better chances, created more chances, and really pleased with the performance. The keeper made some real good saves. Testing ourselves against a really good Championship side. To say we held our own would have been an understatement.” – Nathan Jones

It was always going to be a tough ask but the team played well and limited PNE opportunities for much of the game…..OK we are not in the FA cup now so a push for promotion is on and I’m feeling confident that we will progress in the league now….COYRs !!!!!

CA as I couldn’t watch the game due to no videos on cup games etc, how did Ahadme play, as see he was taken off soon after the second half? Presume he still didn’t have one effort on goal and just ran round like a headless chicken as per all his other games!

From what I saw and I was sat an airport, I actually thought he and TC’s movement was better than what we had 2nd half, but no effort on goal….

Well that pretty much sums up from the last game we saw him play against Reading, he came on with about 15minutes to play and didn’t touch the ball once until the last kick of the game when the ball went off for a throw in and the ref blew his whistle!

Jones sold our best player and was sold a pup to replace him and at a higher price! He’s starting to make even Kirk look a better bet, as at least he use to touch the ball, not that he ever did anything with it!

When is Jones actually going to accept this, as everyone can see it and finally drop him entirely and give that place to another much more worthwhile player?
