Charlie’s Brown stuff

The ghost of Christmas past.

Charlton CEO Charlie Methven has been on the sherry after a 5-0 win and has broken his silence.

Rich Cawley has all the soundbites.

Charlie has of course ingested a couple of ‘Business Communication for Dummies’ books in his life, but the crux of the matter is we are only a win and bit off target and turning an oil tanker around takes time.

There are a lot of new human beings in and round the club and “as much as one would like all of that to come together – to gel and produce optimal output in a really taut and compact space of time – that is somewhat unrealistic.” 🤮

January will be more about trimming the squad, as the training ground pitch isn’t big enough for everyone, so expect many more out’s than in’s, but remember this club has struggled badly to offload dead wood in previous seasons.

He compares us with his previous projects at Oxford and Sunderland which if memory serves me right only improved after he left.

The frustration of supporters has been widely felt, but everyone is feeling the same pain but “there is an inner confidence within the club that things are being done in the right way and that things are moving in the right direction.”

I read quite acutely that there is no plans at all to replace Nathan Jones as manager.

More Methven wisdom to follow.

    A wonderful word salad from Methven. The only three things that can be extracted from it are;

N Jones is secure in his position (madness in itself)

There will be some players departing if anyone can be persuaded to take them on!!

It’s unlikely anyone will be brought in……….

Which leaves me wondering how many more years in League one does all this equate to (assuming we don’t get relegated)

Methven is a parasite, can’t be trusted.

Silence is golden Charlie…..as John Cleese said in The Life of Brian….”What have the Romans (Charlie) brought to us (Charlton) ? “

    Typical corporate speak…

I love his words this pitch isn’t big enough for everyone, well Charlie boy, with the players who have been using it, we certainly haven’t done it justice in most of the games with only eleven playing on it at a time! 🙂

I wonder if the right Charlie agreed these views with the major investors prior to talking with Big Dawg?

Funny what some folks care about.

For me, it’s points on the board to get out of this division.

    Rest of it is noise.

Methven could have spoken about the new spending budget restrictions for league one and two clubs and how that impacts Charlton’s budget planning.

No, its just a useless word salad, more to justify his job to the US investors. It also confirms to me the uselessness & drain on the budget of their performance and ‘strategy’ failure.

More League one / league two to follow. No addressing of positional absence (creative midfield / striker) on the pitch and likely selling of anyone decent now or in the summer.

I was thinking about the Cambridge game but Methven reminded me of the direness of their management.

Sunderland and Oxford only prospered after Methven+ departed the club. Roll on that day.
