Huddersfield Town 2 Charlton Athletic 1
Another defeat, that is one league win in nine. Less points than we had at this point last season which was before Appleton sent us hurtling towards a relegation battle.
Jones asked us to judge him on performances and after he had made us much stronger following the summer transfer window. As a reminder, his last three signings were A Campbell, Potts and Hylton.
I thought we started the first ten minutes okay, and then Huddersfield scored from a set-piece and they really should have scored again. The bar saving us as they took control of the game.
Out of nothing on 32 minutes we won a penalty which Godden dispatched. Spirits briefly lifted until just four minutes later when skipper Docherty was sent off.
It was probably only deserving of a yellow, but it was still stupid and Docherty can add that to his Charlton resume which other than an early season goal is blank.
We made it to half-time but the result looked inevitable.
To be fair however the 10 men put in a great effort and gave the Huddersfield fans a few nervy moments.
We had plenty of the ball in offensive areas kicking towards another good number of travelling Addicks. The Yorkshiremen began to be a bit more patient and retook the lead on 63 minutes.
We did have two great chances to equalize during the remainder of the game. Leaburn flashed a header just wide from an excellent Small cross, but if that was unlucky then that was not a word that could be used for Adhame.
Edwards delivered a fine corner but with the goal at his mercy and unmarked, Ahadme somehow headed wide. It was a shocking miss.
A draw wouldn’t have been undeserved, and again I wasn’t impressed with a so-called expected promotion challenger.
We did win a very late free-kick just outside of the box, but Hylton inexplicably took it quickly and the ball ran through to their ‘keeper, and Godden was offside anyway.
Other than a bit of heart, there are so few redeeming features about this team and the style of play, which is becoming less and less watchable.
🎙️”I’m proud of that second-half performance. But first-half, we have to defend the set-plays better. That’s two set-plays we’ve conceded in the last two games and that can’t continue. Matty Pearson twice. Our players were warned because I’ve worked with Matty Pearson and he’s done that for me on hundreds of occasions.”
⭐️ Miles Leaburn

unfortunately if Miles is the star man then we’re really in trouble. Only seems able to score against lower league opposition, not fulfilling his potential & living off the family name. Desperately need a proper striker & some midfield creativity.
I thought he was our best player by a country mile yesterday.
Small never follows his man…..!!!
He is still young, but why he doesn’t play further up the pitch in front of Edwards I’d never know. Surely we’d carry so much more threat with TC and Small out wide and supporting Leaburn up front?
Yet another defeat for the Messiah and his hopeless tactics.
The sending off was harsh, Yellow card at the most. But then the penalty was soft not really justified.
We continue to slide toward the relegation zone. Still supporters say ‘we can’t keep sacking managers’
Another away game Tuesday. I fully expect defeat. Followed by away to Walsall in the FA cup, which the Messiah proudly announced ‘we’re still in’ Well until next Saturday at least.
The club needs to sit down with N.Jones (the Messiah) and work out an exit strategy for him. If he really does have a five year contract, whoever gave him that needs to go with him.
After watching yet another dismal display I have to now agree with Daggs, Jones has to go, he just hasn’t got it now to get us out of this division. Like bringing in all his old cronies who served him well previously four years ago, like him they are not the same players who got promotion previously and things have moved on since then!
Its very similar to another previous manager Nigel Adkins who was living on past glories gave all the wonderful verbal but couldn’t perform at Charlton.
I believe we now have less points than we did last season at the same time, plus we are also the worst club in this division for having efforts on target, apart from Exeter, who come bottom!
Every loss &/or draw comes with excuses and this last one takes the biscuit, with Jones saying the sending off change the game! Changed the game, we actually played better without Docherty, who considering he is Club captain is another one of the poorest players in the team.
Jones has brought in 11 players since arriving, Alex Mitchell, Josh Edwards, Godden, Mannion, Potts, Berry, Docherty, A.Campbell, Adhadme, Hilton and Dixon.
Seven of of those players are worse &/or no better than some of the other players who have been moved on or are still playing such as Gilhisphey, Reg etc. Plus four of the seven are his ex Luton cronies!
The only decent players Jones has actually brought in are Mitchell, Edwards & Godden, can’t count Dixon as no one has really seen him play.
So purely just judging Jones on his transfer targets alone, its a disaster, let alone the poor tactics and mostly absymal performances being served up, he needs to go now so whoever they bring in will have some idea of whats required before the January transfer window!
When teams consistenly underperform for a longish period it useally means that there is something wrong behind the scenes.
Does anyone know of any such problems?
I haven’t heard of any, and despite underperformance I don’t see the players not trying or caring. Body language is usually the biggest clue. I just think we are rubbish, again, augmented by another round of poor transfer business, and that is down to Jones, and Scott to some degree as it is his job.
Peter Varney has publicly stated there must be things wrong behind the scenes.
Everything changed after the sending off. The change was that we were considerably better…(until Ahadme and Hylton came on)
The quick free kick in the dying seconds of injury time summed it up i think.
I hate changing managers every five minutes, but NJ is now underperforming the hapless Appleton. What on earth did we do to deserve this?
It’s a question we ask ourselves all of the time. We also appear to be lumbered again with a management board that are useless.
Yes of course you are right on that. And every time it changes i think this time we’ll get it right….but we just keep making the same mistakes over and over again. It’s myself i am cross at for keeping buying into it….
Our only two really adequate defenders are both injured which makes things extra difficult but NJ’s attempts to paper over those admittedly yawning cracks have been baffling
NJ’s recruits to the squad, all his old pals, are hopeless without exception. His utilisation of elements of the squad has always been lousy, now he genuinely has selection issues he is clearly all at sea
Is Nathan Asiimwe injured as well?
I don’t think so.
