Back at it
Taking point š£ļø
Back at it tomorrow, and with two games in a space of a few days I hope we can get ourselves moving away from the melancholy position of mid-table (not downwards š£).
The table looks all sadly familiar. 13th place, won five, lost five, same goals scored and conceded. Mid-table insignificance 7 points from a play-off place and 11 from automatic.
Yes, a long way to go blah, blah but where are the signs of progress and the sound of a ticking bomb waiting to explode into life. I canāt see or hear it Iām afraid.
Whatās the expectation here. Try to hover around the top half and wait until the January transfer window? Thatās such a broken record and I donāt see a lot of what was done in the summer as massive upgrades on what came before them.
January is never easy and for every Thierry Small and Kayne Ramsey you get a Lewis Florini, a Lewis Ward and a Freddie Ladapo.
January works best with augmentation not rebuild, but perhaps only one or two are really needed.
14 league games to play until the January transfer window ends however, thatās 42 points. Already the table looks pallid, you have to be in with a shout by the time you get to January otherwise it just becomes about the following season.
What a thought. Come on you Reds, give us something to cheer tomorrow.

It’s becoming harder and harder to muster the enthusiasm. I’m kinda cross with myself for buying into NJ. The super positive pre season talk really got me. I was wanting to have something to believe in obviously, and us humans will hear what we want to hear. The truth is that, as you say CA, the players we have now are no improvement on the players we had before. So we might as well have kept what we had and saved ourselves a shed load of money.
For me it has been the so called significant signings that have disappointed. Docherty, Ahadme and Godden were all presented to us as game changers, but i am disappointed with their impact. Berry has scored a couple of important goals but in-game contribution is hard to see. Coventry you did a piece on, so i won’t repeat you, but suffice to say improvement is needed.
Letting Alfie go looked like a mistake at the time and that mistake is looking bigger and bigger with each passing game.
I do think there might be a player in Terry Taylor. I’d like to see him nail a regular starting place. Mitchell and Jones could be a solid centre of defence, if we can get them both on the pitch. But i am clutching at straws. I have lost faith in Jones but I don’t want him sacked. We have had a succession of coaches and managers and changing them every 6 months is clearly not working either.
This is a horrible division. The difference between the majority of teams is slight. We don’t have to be brilliant to get into the top 6. So there is hope…but man it really is hard work being a Charlton fan. COYR
I lost faith in N. Jones (the Messiah) the moment he drove Alfie May out of the club.
I want him sacked before January. Zero points from the next three games and it has to happen. Even a couple of draws isn’t good enough.
I know the January window is far from ideal. But any new manager must at least be given that opportunity.
Bring back C.Powell.
The Alfie May thing is all the more galling that he is only a bench warmer at Birmingham.
Almost straight after signing Alfie, Birmingham signed Stansfield (for several million I believe) This gave them two quality strikers to choose from. Which is why Alfie is not always first choice. How good it would be if Charlton had two strikers of that quality …………………
That would be nice!
They also signed Dykes from QPR who 42 Scotland caps.
This is an awful division, and sadly we are one of the teams that make it an awful division.
Think I read that we are now the 5th longest occupants too.
Totally agree with you Howard, apart from hardly winning any games we must be also be one of the most boring teams to watch!
Just seen Jones comments since we just lost at Huddersfield that Docherty being sent off changed the game, which I already assumed would be his excuse! Will give my comments then, when CA does his usual sum up!!!
Itās not much to ask is it. A little bit of edge of the seat excitement would help and at least make the thought that this might be a 2 or 3 year plan more palatable.
