Dobbo signs for Wrexham

So at least that saga is over.

Today George Dobson signed on a free for Wrexham on a two-year contract and he will join them on their Hollywood spin around the U.S.A on their pre-season tour in a couple of weeks.

Good luck to Dobbo, surely a more lucrative and favourable move for him and his young family.

Dobson played for Phil Parkinson in his first season at Sunderland where he played 29 league games. He will also link up with ex-Addicks Elliot Lee and Eoghan O’Connell.

We all loved Dobbo and I hope gets a great reception when he returns to SE7 but the signing of Greg Docherty on Friday put any pay to his return I think.

I have rarely been a fan of players returning to the club, it has worked more than a few times I know but I’ve never understood the obsession some fans have about our ex-players. I believe you have to keep moving forward to progress.

A strange saga all around. Pleased for him in the end. He’ll be on a good contract at Wrexham.

One day we’ll discover why he signed for Fehever and what went on in the negotiations over a new contract…but yes we’ve moved on, i terms of central midfielders we have Greg Docherty, Conor Coventry, Luke Berry, Teddy Taylor and Karoy Anderson and yesterday we gave a trial to Teddy Bishop. In the nicest possible way good player that he was I hope we’ve traded up in terms of strengthening our central midfield.

Wrexham should be a good fit for him though, presumably he’s got the sort of money he’s looking for and he’ll be at a club with financial backing behind it.

It does seem though that we are becoming a feeder club for Wrexham.

Football transfers and dealings are a big mystery and kept secret from interested fans…the whole Dobbo farce will one day hopefully be fully explained.

I wish Dobbo every sucess at Wrexham and I’m sure fans will welcome him back to The Valley as he deserves recognition for what he gave us.

I watched the Dartford game to gain an impression of the new signings. Very impressed by Alex Mitchell and Gassam Ahadme. although the bandage on his right knee is a bit of a concern. We were so dominant in the second half that it was difficult to form a strong opinion on Edwards but on first look he appeared a strong and powerful player. Godden, Berry and Bishop looked good recruits, Berry and Bishop appear very similar in style. Hopefully Docherty is the Dobson replacement as midfield defensive player. I personally hope Taylor is over his injury problems and will be another possibility for the defensive midfield position. Aneke was apparently not available ( there’s a surprise) so as Leaburn is still recuperating from his injury, Hilton may be recruited as short term cover, but at 35, he will probably be used for cameo appearances as a sub not a starter. A very good striker in his time at Luton

I thought the academy players Asiimwe and Zach Mitchell played well and Campbell took his goals well. Small was very impressive going forward and provided crosses for two goals but he needs to improve the defensive side of his game. I think he may be suited to a CBT role in front of Edwards.

    General impression very favourable

Wish Dobson the best of luck, like Alfie, put his heart and soul into playing for Charlton and never hid when he didn’t play that well. Two of our best players by long a chalk for the last several years!

I can’t say I’m not still angry about the way this was mis-handled by the club. However, I think this is a good outcome for George and I wish him every happiness and success. He was the only thing worth watching for such a long and difficult time. I just hope the bubble doesn’t burst too soon (as it surely will) for him to actually be able to enjoy his football in a pleasant environment.
