Reading too much into Fleming hire
It’s a natural inclination of mine, but I’m always looking for an angle so I have been thinking about what the hire of new assistant head coach Curtis Fleming means.
Assistant head coach makes Fleming Michael Appleton’s number two inserting himself above Appleton’s old mate Richard O’Donnell in the club’s coaching hierarchy. O’Donnell is listed as coach and Stephen Henderson is first team goalkeeping coach.
Fleming and Appleton do share an agent, but this is an Andy Scott hire as he attempts to put a foundation and a pathway to progress in place whoever the manager.
Fleming also played centre-back over 400 times and has coached widely in this country and abroad. He should have some ideas to help out our defensive game because Appleton has not improved it in any way.
Fleming’s last job was with Jason Euell under Nigel Pearson at Bristol City. I am probably reading too much into that as well.
Appleton was clearly consulted over this new hire, but don’t expect him to outlast Fleming at the club.

My best guess is Fleming has been brought in as the next (possibly caretaker) manager, if and when Apples gets the sack.
Lets hope its when not if.
My thinking/hope is that as an ex-central defender he has been brought in to coach the defenders.
That is the glaring deficiency in our game – or at least one of the more obvious areas where we make too many mistakes and therefore needs strengthening.
