Sent to Coventry

Credit where credit is due. Andy Scott sweet talked Conor Coventry into signing for Charlton on Wednesday night after his talks with Sheffield Wednesday stalled predominantly over a sell-on fee.

This looks a considerable upgrade on other signings under this management group, so welcome to the other side of the Blackwell Tunnel, Conor.

It is nice to be wowed by a signing and the 23-year old should be match-ready and hungry.

Comparison’s will be made with Josh Cullen. Coventry is similar in many ways, and whilst he may not be as technical as Cullen, he is bigger and stronger in the tackle. Wouldn’t it be nice if we have unearthed another nugget not just in the Cullen mold, but Kinsella or Holland.

Yes, apologies, far too positive ☺️

Coventry, Tyreeq Bakinson and Lewis Fiorini could all make their debuts on Saturday when the Addicks host high-flying Peterborough United.

“As long as the paperwork is done with Conor, they’ll all be in the squad tomorrow,” revealed the Head Coach.

Looks like he will be a sucess (like Conner Gallagher and Josh Cullen)…his pedigree is promising and after some detailed research I feel he will definately be a plus purchase and on a long contract.
Praise to Scott for this signing….but more to do.

And wouldn’t it have been nice for Dobbo to have someone decent to play alongside? I do understand we don’t want players who don’t want to be here (and you can’t blame him) but surely we should try harder to keep the good players we have. People keep going on about having so many midfielders – so get rid of the rubbish first.

It will be a statement of intent if they convince Dobbo to stay and play alongside Coventry. Fraser and McGrandles can all do one.

Apparently we’ve paid over £1m for him – or that’s what the deal will amount to after stage payments are taken into consideration. Fair play to the owners/SMT for the capture of a sought after player and they’ve backed up their rhetoric with action. He looks like he fits in with the philosophy of having 8 “elite level” players in our squad who would get into every other L1 squad

Rumours abound that Macauley Gillesphey will also sign today.

I like your positivity. If he’s another Josh Cullen then we’ve just captured a real asset. Maybe that will convince Dobbo/ CBT to stay? Might have to check myself there… probably too hopeful(?)

Probably. I still think one or both will go.

That’s a real positive start so far, and it could be better still if Clarke-Harris signs, although it seems he is holding out to see what other interest comes along. The only problem now is hoping Mr Personality knows where to play his new acquisitions !!!

No apologies needed Mr Chicago, I think this is the first signing in a long time that looks towards the future!
Charlton fans are a moany bunch by nature and who can blame their given the last 17 years, but I’m genuinely encouraged by the signings the new regime have made, including loans. With yet more to come hopefully if we listen to the media! At last we seem to be building for the Championship……….maybe not this year but give them another transfer window in the summer and who knows!!………but now we have something to build our hope on.
