Richard O’Donnell joins Appleton as first team coach
Charlton Athletic are delighted to confirm the appointment of Richard O’Donnell as Men’s First-Team Coach. (more)
O’Donnell has worked with Michael Appleton at Lincoln and Blackpool alongside David Kerslake.
O’Donnell playing career was curtailed at a young age and began coaching in his late teens. Prior to joining Appleton at Lincoln, he spent ten years with Hull City’s academy.
After Appleton was sacked by Blackpool in January, O’Donnell stayed on a little longer with new manager Mick McCarthy before also moving on. The 37-year old has not worked since.
Jason Pearce will return to the academy after Saurday’s game at Stevenage, as is his wish. Stephen Henderson continues with goalkeeping duties, but there is no mention of Anthony Hayes, although with a good reputation and a healthy relationship with Steve Avory, it is believed that he will stay at the club, at least short term.
This maybe the first time a new manager has been allowed to bring in his own person since Karl Robinson had Richie Barker.

It would be crazy to lose Anthony Hayes…dont forget he has stepped in twice to manage the team with Jason.
I’m sure his knowledge of all the squad is invaluable to Appleton.
But we all know the new management’s tack record of sacking staff don’t we ?
Madness to lose Anthony Hayes. He should have been appointed Manager. A vert capable coach who stepped in every time Charlton needed a Manager
