Striker signing
Apologies for a little license there, but the club have added another striker to the first team ranks albeit it is academy product Patrick Casey.
The 18-year old smashed 42 goals last season for the U18 and U21’s and has been with the club since he was 9.
I have to imagine there was a fair bit of interest in the young Irish striker so securing his signature on a pro-contract is great news.
If we can get the squad right for next season there are a few really good young players that can add to the mix. There really is nothing better than seeing a young player come through the ranks to being first team regular. Good luck Patrick 🍀

Great finisher but needs time to develop physically and technically, similar situation to Kanu last season. You will remember that last year people were calling for Kanu rather than Leaburn, I wasn’t. Casey is not ready to go man to man against strong central defenders. Although an U18, I would expect Casey to play mainly for the U21s and play in the EFL trophy games. Kanu is better prepared to be involved with the first team squad. A player that could make an impact is Rylah who is a powerful two footed wide player. I also like Harvey Kedwell as an energetic mid fielder in the Steve Gritt mould, but I am concerned that his name has not been mentioned since the end of last season, he is certainly a better prospect than several of the players that have been signed for the U21s. I hope he has not moved on to greener pastures. He apparently played well in the friendly against Chelsea in March.
Thanks for the insight as always rierti.
I don’t believe Kedwell has yet signed a contract.
I think you have missed out on …
Karoy Anderson – a player in the mould of Joe Aribo, very talented midfielder every chance this will be his break out season
&
Nathan Asiimwe – I can see him being used as the 1st team left back in Cup games
Anderson is a promising player but needs more time, he has good games for the U18s but too many moderate ones in the U21s. He got very little playing time whilst on loan at Aldershot who at the time were at the foot of the National League. Which made me conclude that he wasn’t ready for men’s football. Hopefully his time will come.
Although I did not mention Asiimwe I have mentioned him in very favourable terms for the last 2 seasons. His favoured position is right back although he can play on the left. He played well in combination with Campbell in the 21-22 season, notably overlapping and delivering good crosses.
There are so many promising players spread across the Academy, the best since I started to watch the colts and reserves in the 1960s
Hi I thought we were signing May from cheltenham? He looked shape when we
played them, he has a good number of goals last term.
