Alfie May
The summer ‘are we aren’t we saga’ of Alfie May looks like coming to a conclusion with the Cheltenham striker choosing Gillingham.
The Gills, under new ownership, are throwing money around and have already made three signings including Jonny Williams.
It is actually not even known if we ended up making an offer for the Kent born 29- year old striker after we put the feelers out following the end of the L1 season.
Gillingham seem prepared to pay the six-figure fee, which I am pretty sure Charlton aren’t.
This top 6 budget, we know our targets and will get business done early prattle is looking more and more awkward.

I have a hunch that the so called ‘bid’ was probably a derogatory offer just to get the fans excited and sell some season tickets! It’s so poor that Peter Storrie comes out and keeps saying that the transfer budget will not be affected by the ongoing takeover – that is either a blatant lie or maybe the truth is that there was no transfer budget to begin with therefore technically it couldn’t be impacted.
Looks like another season of misery for us long suffering supporters and it’s about time we had something to cheer about but is anybody really surprised?!
If I remember rightly the story that we had bid came out just before the season ticket opening phase deadline 🤔
I’m not surprised and at the moment, my decision to hold off on a season ticket until the club has demonstrated its ambitions, looks to be a wise one. Portsmouth has shown what real ambition can achieve. They have almost sold-out all of their season tickets. Charlton had no ambition and l suspect that ST sales will be at a low that has not been seen for decades. The new tin pot owner’s deserve everything they get.
I thought my desk chair had lost its hydraulics but sadly its just me slipping slowly lower into another realization of transfer window disappointments !
😁. Yes, another summer of love, sorry, disappointment.
CA, We can’t even beat Gilligham on signing a decent forward, as per last year with Mullins to Wrexham, as we just aren’t the big club anymore that players want to come to, no matter how they try to talk us up, they probably just offered £50,000, a tenth of the money spent on waste of space Kirk, who we can’t even offload now! Re Terrell Thomas he won’t just be a squad player he will be one of the main centre backs, as they won’t want to pay out for anyone who is quality who they may have to pay for!
They are already looking to sign 30 year old midfielder Journeyman Ryan Tunnicliffe, who has been released by Portsmouth, as he’s not up to a promotional challenge, on another Freebie!
It does appear at present, as previously mentioned, De ja Vue, with players looking to be brought in no better or worse than we had last season. As many have said the only way to get out of this division is to bring some quality players in and to do that you may have to spend some money!!!! Second rate average players and loanees, who apart from a few, don’t like to get there shorts dirty when the going is hard, so neither of which, are going to get us out of this division.
Really hope I’m totally wrong, but with all the previous hype of bringing some good quality players in and with the team off to Spain next week and no real signings of any purpose, unlike certain other teams, it’s looking like another last minute shambles to fill the squad and another middle table finish at the end of the yearm if were lucky. 🙁
Still at least we now have two decent Keepers, to try and keep the ball out of the net. 🙂
Hi CA
Alfie will be ours….watch this space….sure as eggs are eggs.
How can you be so sure Chris?
Chris has been pretty confident for a while, Alan.
We end up playing all the kids we giving 1st contracts to one of which was as striker we got him yesterday we got a goalkeeper thats got to be better than Maynard brewer
We wont get anyone half decent as we always leave things to late and our wish list is dwn to zero by then Get Colin Powell example buy early bond in team win league
My nephew is Alfie’s best mate. A fee of 250k had been agreed by both parties, 3 years deal agreed, 8 k a week ,Alfie is sharing a house in Medway with his brother. He has been to Sparrows Lane twice and loves the place. BUT the so called new owners won’t sanction the deal saying why are we paying quarter of a million for a 30 year old player
Alfie wants to play for Charlton believe me
Thanks Keith. Great Intel.
Shows the new owners influence and clearly not in a good way.
I do also know that we were paying £8k per week for another player which came from a Championship club so the wage offer sounds about right. The answer to their question of why are we spending that money on a 30y/o should be “to get us promoted”!!
It’s so hard being a Charlton fan.
250k might end up making the $12m outlay to buy us look reasonably responsible.
Question: why did they want to buy us?
Who knows, is there some way in which it could be to avoid TAX?
Well, a Cayman Island tax residency will certain reduce tax liabilities.
I can’t disclose my source but I’m 99% certain Alfie will be with us soon….
You don’t have to disclose your source, just tell me how you are so certain i.e. my brother works for CAFC in a senior position and has told me that the deal is done…..
I’m a born in Woolwich, live in Medway Addick season ticket holder and can only pray that Chris is right and we get a proven 30 year old striker
The only way he’s coming to Charlton is Cheltenham lower the transfer fee. He wants to come 100% but the new Charlton owners won’t pat up.
Keith
The amount of times I read these types of comments from people claiming to be “in the know” is unreal. I highly doubt you know anymore than I do. I hope I am wrong, but I suspect he will not sign for us. I hope you’re right though 🙂
The ‘new’ owners are Private Equity which often means asset stripers. CAFC’s assets are predominately the promising players from the Academy.
I am frankly very cynical regarding the future of our club, and hope the EFL find a reason to nullify the deal.
He is coming to the Gills.
According to some very well connected sources at Gillingham and Cheltenham it’s pretty much sorted.
Announcement expected next week.
Yes it looks like he will be at Gillingham. I’m with my nephew this afternoon who is a Gills fan so hopefully get some more news.
Keith
Thanks Keith
