Holden’s agent

Dean Holden’s agent has been busy, and I don’t blame him.

Holden has said all the right things since being installed as the temporary manager of Charlton just before Christmas. His mates have all disappeared, but it does sound like he wants to grasp the opportunity to manage the club and stay.

It is a turnaround job, but possibly both parties have found someone to believe in, and belief has been in short supply in SE7 for some while.

Thomas Sandgaard has said that he wants to tie down Holden to a contract beyond the end of the season, but then Sandgaard says a lot of things.

Plus credibility may not be the only problem Sandgaard has. The Dane may or may not have overall responsibility for hiring a manager going forward, small remaining owner stake or not, and almost all new ownerships want their own man, just as Charlie Methven’s SE7 Partners did.

I also remember how long it took for guitar-man to negotiate a contract with Johnnie Jackson and Ben Garner. He drives a hard, and perhaps irrational bargain.

I suspect Holden will be left with his contract until the end of the season, and all parties will then review, that’s unless his agent can actually find him another job in the meantime.

Long term planning has long not been the club’s forte.

I can see Holden going….he must be very disappointed at the current circus at the club and I’m aware that some Championshop clubs are monitoring him.
TS needs to act and sort out a long term contract with Dean ASAP….that’s if its not too late and Dean decides he had enough of TS and his actions to date.
The club is slowly going down the swanee!!

The position of manager at any club is akin to an “asset” at the club. If the manager does well the value to the club increase, in failure it diminishes. With the Manager’s success comes increased game admissions i.e. more money in the owner’s pocket. Thus cutting the budget by loan or free players , short term contracts of Manager’s is clearly not a formula for success because it’s all a temporary plan adding nothing as an asset.

6 managers in league 1 have lost their jobs since the start of this season so it’s likely that it could be 7 soon…

Absolutely right if our owner doesn’t do anything soon we can’t blame Holden to get more security somewhere else

The rumour is that Dean Holden has agreed a permanent contract – and if so that’s good news.

I see some echoes of Chris Powell at work here, he came in as manager in mid-season and those first few months were if we are being honest not successful. But he got rid of the dead wood, re-built the squad and the rest was history. I get the same kind of vibe from DH, he too is someone who knows what he wants and what he is doing.

Hopefully he’ll be backed in the summer with a bit of cash, but that will likely depend on the ownership situation.
