Charlton Athletic 1 Fleetwood Town 2

Painful to watch that, and we even had to suffer almost 20 minutes of injury time.
No one came out of that with any credit. Despite a week’s break they all looked knackered and more than anything the decision making all over the pitch was dreadful.
Sean Clare went off injured and old ‘red card Ryan’ picked up his 3rd of the season. It was never a red, it wasn’t high, he wasn’t the last man, but red cards follow him like a red mist.
How nice of Andy Scott, Jim Rodwell and Charlie Methven to sell two of our central defenders and now we go into the next handful of games with a 21-year old that has played less than 10 games and two experienced pros who have played about 10 games between them in the past two years!
We started brightly but Fleetwood after losing a player to injury and looking like they were content to just sit back, unaccountably took control of the game.
Old boy Stockley, who was given a warm reception, should’ve put them 1-0 up, but the goal came not long after when Rooney lashed in a great goal, although I think AMB will be disappointed.
We continued to misfire with CBT being his most frustrating self. Then, on the point of half-time Rak-Sakyi slalomed through their box and his shot flew into the far corner. It was out of the blue and out of context to the half, but we were level at half-time.
Surely we’d go on to win it now? No such luck. Bonne was pointless. Penney useless, Kilkenny missing.
On 52 minutes Fleetwood re-took the lead after some dreadful defending at a corner. Afterwards there was zero energy or final product. Chuks livened things up when he came on, but once Inniss was banished to the dressing room for his familiar early cuppa, we were done despite playing a game of almost 120 minutes.
Even Thomas Sandgaard had the audacity to appear at the game. Thank you for everything mate.
Dean Holden: “I have absolutely loved my time at this football club, but we need to find out what it looks like moving forward and have some good honest conversations. I just want clarity in terms of what it’s going to look like – it’s as simple as that.”
Stats (CAFC first): Possession – 61% / 39%; Passes – 507/ 328; Accurate passes – 421 / 224; Shots (on target) – 12 (3) / 12 (6).
A performance of a team “on the beach”
Should we lose at FGR on Tuesday, and frankly why wouldn’t we, its difficult to see any points from our nest 4 games vs Derby, Sheff Wed, Posh and Plymouth.
That would leave us with the following 3 games vs Acc, Morecombe and Cambridge
as realistic “relegation 6 pointers”
And who will be manager, if anyone.
Ominous words from Holden “I have absolutely loved my time at this football club…….”
Come end of March and we really could be doomed.
With the forthcoming ban for Innis and injuries to Penney and Clare our new slimmed down squad is about to come into it’s own !!!
Recently found your blog and you seem to hit the nail on the head every time. Only positives were Rak-Sakyi who was lively as ever and Chuks looked like he could make something happen when he came on. Since hitting the post on his debut Bonne has been completely ineffective. I think we’re all just waiting for something good to happen at our club. It could be a long wait.
Welcome Luke.
I think Bonne is more useful as an impact sub, and they should start Leaburn. Oh, wait he is injured.
Innis banned again. The man is a liability and I hope to god he moves on during the summer break. He may have been unlucky this time, but if you put the referee in a position where he has to make a decision, you are always on a knife edge.
Bonne is unfit and made no impact at all, and more injuries.
On to Forest Green and a must for 3 points, although it will be difficult with the possibility of no defence and no manager !!!!!!!
Charlton heading to Welling
Very poor all round best player was Ness, with Dobson a close second. Brewer couldnt have done anything to stop either goal and Saki’s brillant goal but nothing much apart from that, the rest were all pretty bad. With Inniss making his normal cockup and Frasier yet again trying to do his fancy stuff trying to beat three players instead of a simple pass, which led to almost a goal, but eventually did from the non marking defenders for the resulting corner!
More skulduggery at the Valley. If ever a club suffered self harm it’s the Addicks. With Sandgaard driving away current investors whilst holding onto £1 million holding deposit may be worth a peek by the Fraud Squad.
Add the negative effect on an excellent new coach and the playing squad, is beyond calculation.

Bit of a ramble this post…..Sitting near the dugout at this match. The referee was unbelievably poor, probably the worst ref I’ve seen and managed to infuriate most of the home crowd from very, very early on. No one was particularly upset or surprised at Innis getting sent off its not exactly uncommon. But during this phase of play Penney is lying injured on the field of play ignored by the ref with our medical team looking frantically at the 4th official to get permission to enter the field. This went on for 3-4 minutes before the ref finally noticed and Penney was assisted from the field injured. Other thing I noticed is Clare defending narrowly. For their first goal Holden was shouting at Clare to cover their winger Phoenix 2 passes before Phoenix got the ball and crossed it to the far side for it to come back out to Rooney for his very good goal. This happened a couple of times. We looked better with Sessegnon on. Finally if Sandgaard has kept that £1m deposit who on earth will trust him now? Or are we now going to get legal action against us? Oh and Bonne should just about be in a League 2 team and I expect to see the very classy Ness in the premiership in a couple of years.
I wonder how much, the off the field goings on impacted this performance.
I also wonder how much the, “what it looks like moving forward” question by Holden to TS can be answered. This is critical to our near term performances.
