Garner sacked

Ben Garner has left the club it has been announced on the Official Site.

“Charlton Athletic can confirm the departure of Ben Garner as the club’s men’s first-team Manager” (more)

I have to say that has surprised me. I was half way through writing a post looking into Ben Garner’s prospects and I was thinking that this job was getting more and more away from him. In 40 League One games he has won just 10 at Bristol Rovers and Charlton combined.

Simply he didn’t look like he was going to turn it around, and many will say he made his own bed on Friday by picking the team he did, and probably also by his constant reference to what Sandgaard needs to do on the transfer window.

Ironically Garner also said that he had hardly spoken to Thomas all last week. I wonder at least if Sandgaard had the decency this time to do it face to face?

It’s a shame, Garner came over as an honest and good man, but he wasn’t up to the job and Thomas Sandgaard has once again hired naively and badly.

Who will be next then?

It’s a shame for Ben Garner but it’s a results business and his tenure was becoming untenable. Fridays line up/formation odd to say the least. But who next indeed? With Sandgaard at the helm who knows. Previously we’ve had internal appointments however there is hardly anyone left in the building suitable is there? I wonder what affect this will have on player performance Wednesday night…..

I bet TS will appoint the guy who runs the burger bar to step in !!!!….shambles and embarrassing to witness the decline of our club again.

TS or MS managing would be game over and goodnight.
Let’s hope for a new bounce of some sort…

Adkins is free…………….or maybe Martin Sandgaard.
Seriously who in their right mind would take the job knowing there was no investment forthcoming.
Oh and penny to a pound he was not sacked face to face by TS, more likely Mrs TS or worse MS.
    God give me strength

I was aware that several agents of managers out if work had been approached a week ago….Garner is a decent guy but out of depth, not helped by TS who feel sold him a puppy.
So many promises given and witnessing a lot of back tracking this season.
The next appointment is crucial or we drop into league 2 fir the first time in our history.
Come back Curbs your club needs you !!!

If true TS is not man enough to speak with Garner in a face to face meeting…..very disappointing and reflects badly on the TS empire….cowardly behaviour and inhumane.

Whoever does take up the poison chalice will of course inherit a team of mainly 2nd division standard players bought in by Garner. Why should a new guy do any better?

Can see palace recalling JRS in January to get him out of this basket case of a club. Just hope there’s something in Varneys rallying cry in the Brighton game or we really are heading for the soft and nasty.

I have strong feeling that Peter Varney will be at the game with an interested party, and I suspect that TS wants to sell as he bit off more than he could chew…..and after sacking loyal and experienced staff who were the spine of the club.
‘Demolishon Sangaard’ is a false messiah who has damaged us once again.

It was a mistake to appoint him in the first place on the back of one play-off place experience in League 2. Dire tactics, no man management skills, and weird team selection (including the continued abscence of JFK in midfield ) all led to his downfall. However he deserved to be treated with a bit more respect at the end by TS.

I’ll lose no sleep over Garner’s departure. But I look forward to TS and his rag tag family p*ssing off back to America permanently.

You may be talking tounge in cheek but Curbs is too shrewd to take up this mess (mores the pity) . We need our pride back. TS needs to face up or face off. The writing was on the wall when it became jobs for the offspring

So that’s Bow, Adkins, JJ and Garner all gone over the last two years or so, there is at present no word on who is going to take over – even on a caretaker basis, no rush we only have a match in 48 hours…

Rather than examine the shortcomings of BG the finger really needs to be pointed at TS. I appreciate that he saved the club, but it needs serious investment and a strategy, two things that have been lacking. It also needs a full time CEO who knows football and will be hands on and not trying to run the club from the US on a part-time basis.

    Jimmy Floyd Hasselbank…………..come on down!
He and Sandgaard would make a right pair.
    OMG could happen.
Given unlikely TS will pay comp again for an inwork manager (after paying off Garner) does limit the choices.
Let me put 2 names out there – Lee Bowyer and Mark Warburton.
Would love to see Lee back.

Curbs for the rest of the season CA? Would he want it – probably not…
Sandgaard must take the blame, Garner was sold a pup in the summer with Sandgaard screwing up recruitment for the 2nd consecutive summer – for that junior shares the blame.
The common denominator here is the Sandgaard clan – let’s hope someone can get enough cash together to buy them out before we get relegated.

It’s like groundhog day at the Valley, and I’m totally p***ed off with it all.

BG, a nice guy I just could not get my neck around the team changes he made against FGRovers I wish him all the best however not completely his fault with no backing you can bet TS & Son took a bloody big divi out of the Company affairs Before putting our club up for sale, again he had good intentions but didn’t have the extra clout to go forward.

I said on here a few months ago watch your back garner when he said about no money for buying players
In saying that he had exposed TS for who He really is a used car salesman
As I’ve said before thank you for saving our club but it’s time to go sell up to someone like varney who is a true Charlton man and would support the club on and off the field
We would have a real ceo real background staff and no 2nd division freebies and no stupid son that gets players from his championship manger game
Please please please sell up now TS
