Garner goes back to Swindon for Jack Payne

Looks as if Jack Payne will be the next Ben Garner acquisition as the new Addicks’ boss raids his old club once more.
27-year old Payne can play as an 8 or a 10, and turned down a very good offer to apparently take lower wages at Charlton. Payne will have a medical today before being announced tomorrow.
The London born Payne began his career at Southend, played in The Championship with Huddersfield, had loan spells whilst the Yorkshire side were in the Premier League at L1 Oxford United, Blackburn and Bradford before signing for Lincoln City. A season later Payne joined Swindon where he played 88 games, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists.

Yet another midfielder…why ? We desperately need a left back (make that 2 left backs) and also a replacement for Washington..i.e a ‘nippy’ striker.
I think he will be a good acquisition, but we need goals and you are right, at least one LB.
Josh has been snapped up by Wimbledon on a permanent move….
The merry go round hasn’t stopped ….more out to follow and hopefully some quality new.
I assume this means JFC will be sold. Bit concerned with the reliance on ex-Swindon players who themselves, were picked up on frees before. Hoping I’m wrong and Sandgaard’s analysis team have unearthed some jewels, but it smells of ‘cheap’ over ‘quality’. Odd to keep signing midfielders too. LB and ST badly needed, unless we’re going with Sessegnon only, and Davison/Leaburn as back up?
Rob – I guess we’ll find out but I have to say that TS has backed Garner here with the signings of players that he knows well.
We need a couple of strikers also another centre half and a left back. Leaburn is not good enough yet for League one.
To get into the top 6 we will need 80 odd goals, some 25 more than we scored last season (with Washington). Now with only Stockley, and Chuks “glass” Aneke we will be royally stuffed IF Sockley gets injured and WHEN Aneke gets injured. Leaburn may look good in a friendly against Dover, but in L1 up against the likes of Accrrigton, I dont think you. At least a season too soon.
Hoping someone is lined up
After Stockley (17) our current top scorer is “glass” with 4 then a couple with 2………..now does that sound like competing for top 6???
We now have a complete team with midfielders, baring the goalie, plus if we add Clare and O’Connell who are both really midfielders, thats also two subs!
But now with only two first team strikers, as Davidson will soon be on his way to Wimbeldon and with Chucks only able to play 60 minutes &/or injured, only one! Plus a youthful Leaburn, who has yet to play a league one game, which will be totally new to him when up against hard defenders such as Accrington!
I have no idea where the main goals are going to come from, even from Stockley, as according to Garner he prefers to play with keeping the ball on the ground, which is defintely not one of Stockleys strengths.
Little wonder others aren’t rushing to renew &/ or buy a season ticket, especially with the increases, as this doesn’t look like a promotion team at all, with all freebie buys, most who haven’t played above division 2 level, no left sided defenders and really only ne main forward now. With Mr Sangaard saying every time we sign someone, how great they are and we are so pleased to have got him, having never seen or heard of any of those players before and really knowing nothing about them. Very Worring Times.
We really do need a Marquis signing.
He went to Bristol Rovers….
