Corey Blackett-Taylor

The 23-year old winger has been training with the Addicks, and today signed a short-term contract until January, which if not earth shattering is a sensible decision for both parties.

Blackett-Taylor came through the youth ranks at Aston Villa and spent the last two seasons with Tranmere Rovers but was released in the summer.

Steve Gallen said: “He’s direct, he likes to take people on, he runs at people, he likes to get crosses in, so I’m pleased that it’s another good addition for us.”

Fair play on the young man earning a contract and I hope he gets a chance and grabs it. That is three wingers in Adkins’ squad, and I hope it changes our style of play.

This may or may not signal the aisle that Sandgaard has us shopping in, I guess we will see during the next 11 days.

Think that’s exactly the aisle we’re in, that and waiting for the next Gomez, Konsa, Aribo.

I find the short term contract bizarre thinking. As reported Blackett-Taylor has been training with the Addicks for some weeks and now has only satisfied the Recruitment team that he is only worthy of a contract until January. Clearly with the short term contract, Adkins & Co. are not really waffling on the value he brings to the team. With such a short contract and a free agent at that, he could just “prove” himself right out of the team with a better offer in January, leaving us to fill the hole he left.

I have watched only the home game v Sheffield Wednesday on television this season, and after several defeats am now fearful of what is to come. I was cautiously optimistic when Adkins was appointed, but less so now. It seems the team is no stronger at all than last season, with largely the same players. New additions have not impressed. Worse than that they seem to be playing the long ball game with the premise that Stockley might win it in the air. I can’t see where goals are going to come from in open play. Surely we need some craft in midfield, some full backs with pace who can defend and get forward, some cover at centre back and a goal scorer up front. To me, this is not looking good. Maybe there’s a long term plan, but I can’t see it at present. Of course, a 3-0 thrashing of Wigan today would ease my fears.

The team are missing the spark in midfield which Jake Forster-Caskey provided us with. Our current full backs are not capable of getting up and down the wing flanks for the full ninety minutes. If we did not have Jayden Stockley in the team I think then we would be in a fine mess. COYR.
