Deadline day meltdown

Picture this. It’s lockdown, no one can leave their homes, the Sky Sports transfer window crescendo is reaching its peak of absurdity, the Addicks have sold a loveable game-changer and an unloveable game-changer, and have signed no one…. well no one for a few hours, and the Sky countdown clock is way past 0:00:00.

The whole gambit of instant keyboard reaction is in absolute meltdown. Sack the board, sack Gallen, sack Bowyer, sack everyone.

Gone midnight and most people have gone to bed with very sore fingers and sore throats due to shouting at the keyboard, but wooaah, hang on there is late news.

In walks a young lad with an unpronounceable name, he stands in front of the oversized badge at Sparrows Lane (that photo could have been taken hours ago) and the Addicks’ world breathes a huge sigh of relief and proclaim that we have signed a superstar whilst checking Wikipedia at the same time.

Gallen went back to the Swindon well and snatched 22-year old right winger Diallang Jaiyesimi on a three-and-a-half-year deal. Turns out that he and Matt Smith have been poor Swindon’s best players this season. Jaiyesini has scored 4 goals, assisted 3 in 15 starts. He scored and assisted against us recently.

Jaiyesimi was also at the County Ground last season on loan and signed for the Robins from Norwich in the summer. Born in Southwark he began his career at Dulwich Hamlet and has cost Thomas a six figure fee.

Part of the meltdown on social media comes from too much information, or made up information, who the hell knows, but what I do know is that why Sandgaard, Bowyer and Gallen were working their arses off they were mostly getting slaughtered.

Time will tell if it was a good window or not, a window notoriously difficult, even if you have Matt Southall’s super duper phone.’

If we hadn’t got in there early with Scwartz, Millar and Stockley then yes, I could understand the angst, and believe me at 11.45 GMT I was also hitting the bottle. Losing Williams and Maddison today, and Smyth, Bogle, Lapslie, Wiredu and Doughty in the past week certainly raised the alarm bells.

However, consider:

    Schwartz for Smyth
    Stockley for Bogle
    Millar for Maddison
    Smith for Levitt
    Jaiyesimi for Williams

Then with Doughty injured anyway and Wiredu and Lapslie not even part of the squad, then Sandgaard’s huge plastic surgery operation within a strict budget this month looks as if we will go into the last 21 games stronger. 🙏 we get some central defenders back from injury!

Who knows how Gallen’s list works, there must be circles and lines all over it, but by all accounts he and Bowyer put in bids that were declined for Joel Randell (Exeter City), Charlie Kirk (Crewe), Josh Morris (Fleetwood), Jordan Graham (Gillingham) and Nnamdi Ofoborh (Bournemouth) today.

I hope they sleep well. I hope you all sleep well. There’s a football match tomorrow.

After the rumours around Charlie Kirk,im disappointed Gallen and Bowyer couldn’t get the move over the line. The lad has a big future I think, and will probably go for bigger money in the summer transfer window.
Another disappointment is the loan move of Maddison to Bolton.
I’m not sure whether he has been given enough time to show what he can do,or he is just not settled at Charlton,as he is a million miles from the player he was at Peterborough. He could be a game changer on his day,a similar player to Ricky Holmes, another player who didnt show his real potential in his stay with the Addicks.
Hey-ho,onwards and upwards.Overall,I think it has been a decent window for us,and the late capture of Swindon’s Jaiyesimi could be a little gem by Gallen and Co.
    Bring on Portsmouth !!!!

This is why I avoid the forums. Twitter is bad enough. Lots of reactionary gibberish spouted by people who know little. If we score more goals we will secure the play offs. Yes, being tighter at the back would be good but I’d rather score 3 each game than 1.
    As you point out –
    Schwartz for Smyth
    Stockley for Bogle
    Millar for Maddison
    Smith for Levitt
    Jaiyesimi for Williams
Are all upgrades. We now have more pace and threat following this window and jiggered around the finances smartly.

Sad to see Williams go but his net output wasn’t anywhere near what his ‘busyness’ led you to expect. Maddison just never seemed happy and maybe wasn’t capable of playing the Bowyer way, he must have pushed back and from there we know that there will be only one winner.

I expect us to be more adventurous and score more in the next few months. Maybe we will be roaring into the play offs with in form strikers like in 2019. Maybe.

Your player for player comparison shows you why it’s been a good window.
