New owners offer Bowyer 5-year deal.

Lots of cheesy grins and happy faces watching the Thursday press conference today at The Valley. The press were clearly given the heads up that this was not going to be your regular Sparrows Lane Thursday session, as Sky, BBC and ITV joined the local hacks.
The headline news was of course the offer of a 5-year contract to Lee Bowyer, which he hasn’t signed yet, and appeared to find out more detail on it as we did as the presser went on. Matt Southall said that Bow was a fundamental part of why the club was attractive to buy and will be a key part of it going forward, as will “Director of Football” Steve Gallen.
Southall again came across as nervous, yet compared to the turgid, passionless Duchatelet, the chairman oozes goodwill and sincerity. As the American’s would say, he is the sort of bloke you’d have a beer with.
He has to tread carefully around some questions as you’d expect but there were lots of positives relating to signings, ambition, Sparrows Lane, the academy and the direction they want the club to go in.
Bowyer said yesterday, before driving up the country to meet a potential signing, that he wanted a new contract offer now. Southall and the owners listened, and look to have delivered.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but it does seem obvious now that the idea of leaving Bowyer’s contract negotiations until Feb was a bit silly. A bit of naivety on everyone’s part perhaps.
Everyone except Bowyer it seems.
I don’t know about you but he never ceases to surprise me. For all the highs and lows of his football career, think I at least did him a disservice when I never imagined that he must have taken so much in from managers, coaches, peers and others that he worked with and met.
We know it wasn’t quite the Frank Lampard somewhat silver spooned path but Bow made his own way and heck has he taken a lot of stuff in.
Honestly what was he doing fishing carp 😂
Just watched this in full and yeah, whilst maybe not so well choreographed and polished, was genuine and sincere with the passion for the club to progress coming through in bucket loads – not a bad first 7 days – so so refreshing
Here’s hoping West Brom don’t rain on our parade tomorrow, more meaningful fixtures coming in Feb tbf, am sure Lee will sign up next week and onwards and upwards, he can the afford to by himself a new jacket
Who else noticed the new jacket. Assume it was Gucci
