My 2019 Top Five Favourite Hotels

Next on my agenda for my 2019 Top Five’s is Hotels. Those that know me or have had more than a cursory glance at this Blog will have worked out that I have a fascination with hotels. My travels were way down on previous years, but I managed to still have 20 locations to pick from and these were my Top Five Favourite Hotels:
1. Faena Hotel, Miami Beach, Florida
Crazy leopard skin and gold tasseled bedecked hotel in Miami that is like staying in a theatre’s costume warehouse. Over the top Art Deco rooms with bright red everywhere. We loved it, and the two wonderful restaurants, one of which I have no recollection of leaving. Good times.
2. Ace Hotel, New Orleans, Louisiana
In the business district of NO, but full of very non-business types. Great people watching especially by the roof top pool. Lots of dark hues and wood. I’m a big fan of the Ace brand.
3. The Edition, New York
Despite it’s size and location this hotel manages to act like a private club. Great location right on Madison Avenue and this is a NYC hotel with a view, plus the rooms are huge. Active lobby bar with raging fires and a bar man who expertly poured bloody Mary’s.
4. Isla Bella, Marathon, Florida
Deep down in Key West, although not all the way down and just before the Seven Mile Bridge, the all white low rise Isla Bella occupies the sea front with numerous pools dotted along the sand. Lots of family activities and a very nice Italian restaurant on site.
5. Dream Downtown, New York
Another NYC pick. Bang in Chelsea village this is the place with the port hole windows. This makes my top five alone for it’s rooftop bar and interior outdoor pool with sandy beach bar. People watching is spot on.
Notable Mention: Hotel Modern, Sarasota, Florida
