Charlton Athletic 1 Blackburn Rovers 0

Something tells me I’m into something good..

It’s back. That exhausting, nerves wrecked, voice croaky feeling. And I only watched it on iFollow!

Brilliant result yesterday, with the players putting in a phenomenal amount of effort. It wasn’t a great game, with few chances, but we won because we wanted it more. We rode our luck, got a goal of Jason Pearce’s arse, Ben Amos made a couple of vital saves, and all through, The Valley was a wall of noise.

Our midfield was immense. Kashi appears everywhere and does the simple things whilst creating time for himself in what was a congested middle. JFC was excellent and the two of them were a formidable double act.

Reeves kept the ball well, allowing the others to breathe, and a special mention to Mark Marshall who whilst not carrying Fosu’s threat, has got very good feet, and worked his socks off helping out at the back, picking up a lot of second balls and made some great runs forward.

Pearce, Bauer and Konsa were organized and Pearce led by example against a team that has scored 80 league goals. Have to feel for Lewis Page, who played well but was stretchered off with a badly cut leg, nonetheless it was reassuring to know that Dasilva could come on to take his place.

The front two had very little to work with, as the game was mostly fought in the middle of the pitch. Blackburn have some strapping lads at the back, but Ajose and Magennis never stopped chasing and contributed to the overall performance.

At times, especially the beginning of the 2nd half, it was a little like the Alamo and hearts were in mouths when Rovers hit the bar. However it always seemed like we had control and intelligence to move the ball out to safety and a red shirt.

Bowyer waited a little while to relieve Reeves and Ajose, but when Mavididi and Aribo came on we grippled back some possession, and what a wonderful flowing move it was that ended with their ‘keeper saving from JFC’s shot.

Bowyer talks of togetherness and hard work, well everyone of his players gave it their absolute all yesterday. Makes you proud.

    Nerves shot
Last time I felt like that at a charlton game was watching Micheal Gray in a mustard coloured shirt stepping up to take a pen
It’s incredible, walked out of the scunny game vowing that was me done for the season – walked out yesterday straight round the back of the west stand two tickets for the crude oil arena – bit hasty maybe but my lad was adamant and the missus was non-plussed, he’s got a levels – he can revise on the train whilst I play with the worry beads
