First potential buyer step forward

So while Katrien Meire still denies that the club is for sale the Daily Mail have told the world that in fact we are.

The first name to appear behind the curtain is Australian Football Consortium (AFC). A consortium attempting to engage investors to help “acquire an under-performing English football team and elevate it to the English Premier League.” It says here for which Henslow are listed as the transaction advisors.

A little bit far fetched and Championship Manager worrying, but possibly with good intentions. A £20m buying price is said to be the magic number, but it appears that there is no hard cash to elevate the Addicks to the Premier League, which is probably four times the purchase price. However rich Arabs, with good intentions are hard to find, and local businessmen who happen to live in Blackheath and are not Russians or Chinese and are billionaire’s are harder to find.

I personally felt in those early days of Duchatelet that his model, from the bare bones of what we knew, could work. That was before we realized our knight in shining armour was a mad professor. These consortium ownership arrangement’s are possibly our only option, although it looks as if AFC’s buying power is a fraction of what Duchatelet has.

The Mail reporter says that AFC are in a period of exclusivity, and that is their prerogative but I have no doubt that other bidders will come to the table.

    • PA, I just think there are others sat on the sidelines waiting for someone to lay the first card. I could be wrong but I have always gone against the view that there are no alternatives to RD.

If the price is £20m why couldn’t every Charlton fan (say 30,0000) donate a minimum £1,000 (or more) then we the fans could buy the club, elect personnel to run it and start to build a real club again?

    • I’m in but whether we still have 29,999 others left I’m not sure Simon.

I read on Twitter (unreliable I know) that for 20 million they do not get The Valley. Having Roland hold onto that would make me feel terribly insecure.
I’ve had many a dodgy landlord in my time and it is not fun.

    • Richard, apparently that is true and that would not settle well with me at all.
