Another timid performance from Karl Robinson’s Addick’s last night. Lots of possession, lots of corners, plenty of pot shots but no substance, a bit like the manager’s rhetoric.

A snapshot of Roland Duchatelet and the almost forgotten Katrien Meire’s Charlton legacy. Losing to a relegation threatened fourth from bottom team in front of two thousand odd people. Every decision better than the last.

No disrespect meant towards the Latics, who we have spent big chunks of a century following around the divisions. John Sheridan has given them a real new manager (for the third time) bounce with five wins in eight. Meanwhile under Robinson we have won three in thirteen. A record worse than Luzon and Peeters.

Our performance was again toothless and mistake ridden and these 18 cup finals as described by Andrew Crofts will not be yielding any silverware and we remain firmly in midtable almost as far away from the play-offs as we are relegation.

An odd team selection, but Robinson is within his rights to utilize his younger and hungrier squad, I think that’s what he called it after the window shut, but in Duchatelet’s Groundhog Day ownership the manager has to make do with loans and young inexperienced players or a mix of both in a squad blatantly under resourced and not armed for a promotion drive.

Credit to those of you still anticipating a push for the play-off’s and a change of fortunes under our great Belgian saviour. I admire your blind faith and I’d like to occupy the world that you live in one day. I would rather spend my time working out if I can get to St Truiden on March 4th.

We just have to thank our lucky stars that Roland doesn’t do failure. Imagine if he did.
