Will it be Slade?
Doctor Kish has revealed that a new manager could be announced in SE7 today. Russell Slade seems the most likely nominee with the newly appointed Cardiff City head of football as low as 1/2 with the bookies.
Slade moved from Leyton Orient to Cardiff as the Bluebirds manager in October 2014 replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Slade was pretty unpopular at Cardiff mostly due to his efforts to steady the ship and get rid of high earners, which were his orders, but he did achieve positions of 11th and 8th in his two seasons.
Slade does not inspire me at all, but if Duchatelet is to go with a British manager Slade will hit many of the owner’s key performance indicators. Slade has worked within small budgets, knows the lower divisions, wouldn’t be expensive and had relative success ‘up the road’ at Orient. In saying that in over 20 years of management the 55-year old has never guided one of his sides to promotion.
One other thing. He will know a thing or two about dealing with cuckoo owners.

In comparison to previous managers this is a blessing, but we know it won’t work under the Rat and Pinnochio. But i can see the Rat singing “we’re all crazeee now”….

Believe me Tan is positively saintly compared with Duchatelet. Whoever gets the job will be taking on a mammoth rebuilding task whilst operating in a very difficult situation with the breakdown of relations between the owner and the (I think it’s fair to say) majority of the support base. Certainly Slade would be a steady and knowledgeable hand and the supporters expectations will not be so great as those of Cardiff City who never really warmed to him. As you imply CA he was in a way a victim of where Cardiff City were in a financial sense and I would regard his record there as quite respectable. I would still prefer Adkins-I think he would be able, long-term, to take Charlton further.
Terry, you had me there until you mentioned ‘long-term.’
I take your point CA. I suppose ‘long-term’ actually disappeared from the football dictionary (and psyche) some time ago. Fortunes can of course change very quickly in football and bring significant success in the short term as the Chris Powell era demonstrated so well. But that success and the structure and personnel upon which it was built was equally quickly trashed by Duchatelet and Meire to the point where CAFC is gripped by complete dysfunctionality. It’s going to be a long haul back (by ‘back’ I mean to being a serious contender for promotion from the Championship) for CAFC from such a damaged state.
Please, not him! I’d rather have a foreign nobody than him. He just screams ‘Let’s establish ourselves in mid-table for a couple of seasons’!
I sympathise with your impatience Kings Hill but just consider how far we have fallen under this clown of an owner, and as he doesn’t appear to want to sell the club our expectations as fans can’t be based on what we believe the true potential of the club to be rather what is the best that can be managed under his idiotic stewardship. We’ve had enough ‘nobodies’ wherever they have hailed from and I do think that Slade would be an improvement and represent a step in the right direction. Now, if CAFC had an owner with serious football intentions I think we all would and should have far higher expectations but in the meantime….
I am quite concerned the about the time its taking to find a “British manager”,my concern is that being a total “yes man” needs to be on the”CV”,foreign coaches and managers took no time at all to appoint, just hope we are not looking for someone up to their eyeballs in debt have ten kids and a secret bad habit, but I am sure that’s not the case.
You know my feelings CA – it is totally irrelevant who is Head Coach (we are not getting a MANAGER) so I don’t know why fans bother to discuss it. Why anyone wants to work for this man is beyond me – do they have no dignity or have they got their heads buried in the sand?
