SLP speak out. We need others
Not a dickie bird in the main stream press about the stealing of a club’s identity in broad daylight in a little corner of south east London. Googling Karel Fraye or Roland Duchatelet brings up a couple of local press paragraph fillers but nothing from a national press too wrapped up in Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp, Wayne Rooney and the best league in the world (sic).
Yet today, SLP journalist Richard Cawley who has been closer than most to the recent theatre at The Valley has written an excellent piece which sums up the despair with which Addicks’ fans look on helpless with what is happening to their club.
If there has been one media outlet the club has dripped fed in recent years, both the Belgians and Jimenez and Slater, it has been the South London Press and I applaud Rich for speaking out, probably jeopardising his relationship with Meire in particular in the process.
Paul Mortimer has also spoken out and we need others who have a voice to do likewise. I implore Keith Peacock to stand up and be counted. Keith, what are they going to do to you? Sack you? So what.
“These are brutal times to be a Charlton fan. Fraeye is walking into the epicentre of a savage storm.” Rich writes and we are and this fan is not interested in making it less of a shit storm and nor should you.
Whilst Fraeye and De Conte are incomeptent and inexperienced stooges like the CEO, we need to be a force together to demand dialogue and an explanation of what Duchatelet’s intentions and objectives are. He may own the football club, but he does not own us, nor the club’s history. And I don’t want him near the future.
The Trust has their AGM at the Bugle Horn on Thursday. If supporters are going to act as one in any kind of protest or demonstration the Trust needs to guide and align all of our fears and outrage. I just renewed my membership but will not be able to be in SE7 on Thursday. If you can make it I encourage you to attend.
In a quirky form of fate the chief sports correspondent of The Guardian, Owen Gibson will speak and listen to fans. Owen could be a great ally.

Agree with you about KP but where is Richard Murray. Nobody knows the club better than him!

It did get a brief mention on the Guardian’s excellent Football Weekly podcast.
Not quite true about the mainstream press. Read Martin Samuel’s column in Monday’s Daily Mail.
I’m not sure how reliable this information is , but I understand from this source that Richard Murray has parted company with Charlton. But don’t quote me on this
I’ve not seen that anywhere else Michael.
I believe that he’s owed a substantial sum of cash in the form of loans which become payable if we are promoted, whilst also owning part of the club – according to the Directors page of the official website Roland Duchâtelet owns 95%, so I presume he owns 5% (though I had thought it was 10% off the top of my head, has this recently changed?).
I presume he’s on a drip feed repayment model, which requires his silence publicly. People overstate his role and power as Non-exec Chairman, and so I think he’s being treated unfairly in some quarters
Murray is in a real difficult place but I’d like to see him appearing less subservient. Depending how locked tight his deal is he could still make life difficult for RD. I know I would if I owned 5% and knew the club and its workings as well as he does. I would be taking the morale ground as a minimum. And probably would have written of my loan a long time ago!
