Fit, injured or ill?

Today Guy Luzon was predictably vague when it came to Saturday’s team selection. Tony Watt we think is fit again, Simon Makienok may or may not be as he only started training properly today and Igor Vetokele, well who knows. He didn’t train today as he was ill Luzon said, but obviously not too ill to be in bed, as he was at Sparrows Lane.

Maybe it was jet lag Igor was suffering from as he was surprisingly allowed to make the 12 hour plane journey (one way) to Magadascar to represent Angola in their African Cup of Nations qualifier this week. They drew 0-0 by the way.

The prognosis on Henderson, Ghoochannejhad and Ceballos is that Reza and the young Spaniard will be out for a little while but Henderson is 2-3 weeks away, although the coaching staff are right not to rush the Irishman back. And stories this week, which hardly whipped up a sea of excitement, that George Tucudean is back in SE7 appear completely unfounded.

Luzon has to look at Saturday and next Tuesday’s game as a whole and select accordingly but he does have slightly more options than he did at Wolves although the Israeli did use today’s press conference to once again publicly ask for player additions, with an attacking midfielder his priority.

Rotherham come to The Valley bottom of the table and the melodramatic and Yorkshire pudding loving Steve Evans under a bit of pressure. This week he took away the captaincy from ex-Addick Greg Halford. In many ways I’ll look at Saturday as a test of how far we have come under Luzon and a more worthy sign of what we can expect this season over the long haul.

Last season Rotherham was Luzon’s first home game in charge in front of a confused an angry Valley. Saturday will be a lot different, and with U18 tickets a £1, I hope the Valley and the team reward each other with another display to further dispel memories of those dark January days.
