Charlton Athletic 0 Ipswich Town 3

A third 0-3 home defeat in four games and any thoughts of a renaissance after two wins were squashed by an apathetic performance in front of a worryingly sparse and disinterested crowd.

This club is only going one way at the moment and it is runaway train with Ms Meire at the steering wheel and M Duchatelet in the control box. Whether the 2% Protest made any impact on the two of them I very much doubt it, but the fact that ‘Stand up for the 2%‘ posters were held aloft by at least half of the home fans, sitting amongst a sea of empty red seats was a very respectful but poignant image, one that got the message out to a broader audience and showed up Meire’s arrogance for what it is.

Congratulations to all of those that helped and supported it. It was a good start and I will write more on that in the coming days now that I am back in Bermuda and once I can shake off the hangover of another pitiful display.

Fit, injured or ill?

Today Guy Luzon was predictably vague when it came to Saturday’s team selection. Tony Watt we think is fit again, Simon Makienok may or may not be as he only started training properly today and Igor Vetokele, well who knows. He didn’t train today as he was ill Luzon said, but obviously not too ill to be in bed, as he was at Sparrows Lane.

Maybe it was jet lag Igor was suffering from as he was surprisingly allowed to make the 12 hour plane journey (one way) to Magadascar to represent Angola in their African Cup of Nations qualifier this week. They drew 0-0 by the way.

Charlton Athletic 2 Hull City 1

Thanks again to my ever reliable Mum for the text that sprung to life when I nicked a bit of free wireless at Belize airport this morning (7 hours behind the UK). What a fantastic result.

Players are falling like flies, but it must have taken a massive team effort to dominate the game and grab all 3 points in the way they did this afternoon. I’ve said for donkey’s years that our games are always the last to finish in the country and I think today’s ended at 102 minutes. Blimey, The Valley must have been rocking at 5pm and my son was there with my brother and I can’t wait to get a full run down tomorrow.

Why are we playing St-Truiden?

Two Charlton friendlies to wet your whistle tomorrow.

Tha Addicks play Sint-Truiden Saturday evening in Limburg, whilst a CAFC XI goes to Dulwich Hamlet in the afternoon but will include Stephen Henderson, Rhoys Wiggins, Chris Solly, Johnnie Jackson and Tareiq Holmes-Dennis in their line up.

There may well be other first teamers too as Guy Luzon is concerned about Sint-Truiden’s artificial pitch, and how it could hamper or cause injuries, which begs the question why we are playing them in the first place. The only reason I can think of is that it suits Katrien Meire, the two loves of her life locking horns in a lazy kickabout at dusk on carpet.

Come in no. 9

Summer signing number three. Palermo’s 6ft 7inch Danish striker was unveiled today by the club on a season long loan. Makienok will wear the no. 9 shirt.

Despite the first impressions of a Thor like tattooed giant, he seems like a nice boy in the video interview and Addicks will be able to relate to that “goosebumps” feeling he had walking into The Valley today. Let us hope he gives a few Championship defenders plenty of goosebumps too.

Addicks close in on 6ft 7in Simon Makienok

According to more and more sources including Richard Cawley in the SLP, Charlton are close to pulling off the loan signing of Palermo’s Danish striker Simon Makienok.

The 24-year Makienok scored about a goal every other game during three seasons for Brøndby in his home country which prompted a big chase for him across Europe a year ago. However at Palermo the giant striker struggled for both game time and with the local language and the Serie A side are trying to offload him and it looks as if Charlton are favourites to sign him.
