Peeters sacked

“Charlton have terminated the contract of Head Coach Bob Peeters with immediate effect, the club can confirm. The contracts of Senior Professional Development Coach Patrick Van Houdt and Performance Analyst Guy Kiala have also been terminated.” (Club statement)

24 hours after CEO Katrien Meire told supporters in the matchday programme that the club can take many positives from the first six months of the season, tonight the club decided that Bob Peeters, given to us by Roland Duchâtelet, wasn’t one of them.

25 games, 6 wins and only one win in the last 12 games was not good enough for Roland Duchâtelet even though I think the owner himself has hindered this squad’s progress after such a great start to the season, which had the Addicks unbeaten in the league until the middle of October.

I flew home today after being at the game yesterday and it was rubbish, but although some of the press picked up on some anti-Peeters feeling, I didn’t, and personally I think Bob deserved better and the type of mixed message Katrien Meire sent out yesterday in the programme only highlights the constraints and perplexities that Bob must have been working under.

Certainly the players looked a mixture of disinterested and confused as to their tasks, and once you lose the players, then it will unravel fast. However I think that is doing some of the senior pro’s such as Johnnie Jackson and Chris Solly a disservice. They are wily and intelligent enough to know that there were other forces at play.

Of course, we will be the last to know, and will be continued to be fed buzzwords and nonsensical flimsy abstractions.

Bob deserved better and so do we.

The very best of luck to Bob Peeters. I wonder if he will stay on the Duchâtelet payroll?

Sadly as in any business the chief gets the heave ho when results go south. Hero one minute, bum the next. But no doubt that the players are not playing like they were, tactics are wrong or they are paralyzed with fear.

Perhaps in this case the wrong chief got fired but for those of us in corporate lfe we see that over and over again.

What we know already is that the words are shalllow and after reading reports of BP’s demeanor yesterday he knew it was coming.

The next few days will probably prove what we are all thinking that this network idea just doesn’t work as shown by the majority of those sent to us since last year not being up to “Standard”.

Again scary times, but this non ability to score at max more than one goal a game can’t go on without seeing us go into relegation again. A small squad lacking quality will, always struggle and we are relying on too many kids who are not ready.

A testing time for all supporters especially those who have it in their blood and for whom there is no medical cure 🙂

It was obvious to me at half time that the players didn’t want to play for the man – rightly or wrongly. Iinitially I was delighted he had gone – but what difference will it make. Until the man at the top changes it will stay the same no matter who the Head Coach or Manager is. If you look at how the tactics changed from what seemed a bright and fresh attacking approach at the start of the season to the defence lining up on Saturday with the midfield practically 2 feet in front of them (OK, I exaggerate, but you understand what I’m saying) it smacks of absolute fear on Peeters part. And why is that? Because of the bully at the top. I pity the new person.

What now for KM…….As you post, her comments in the programme make her position ‘challenging’

Embarrassing isn’t it. She must know what she is dealing with, but completely sums up the communication between RD and everyone else, or a complete lack of a plan. Or both!

So Curbs has thrown his hat in the ring, would Roland be bold enough to take up his services. Would we be willing to see him back? Interesting thoughts?

Maybe as a Director of Football. If he was Flemish he would be fantastic as network Technical Director. Curbs likes to control his own destiny though.
