Morrison re-signs

As was hoped Addicks were given a big boost this afternoon by the confirmation that Michael Morrison has signed a new 2-year contract. The centre-half has been a consistent performer on the pitch and a strong presence off it since he signed from Sheffield Wednesday 3 years ago.

I’m really glad the club got this deal over the line and now Diego Poyet is the last remaining puzzle to be resolved.

Igor Vetokele also completed his move today, for a transfer fee rumoured to be €3m (£2.4m), which frankly astonishes me, although we were told that we also bid more than £1m for Max Gradel in January and of course Parzyszek cost in the region of €700,000. A confusing strategy with Duchatelet known to be anti agents, silly wages and with FFP at the heart of his plan for success.

Duchatelet has also rewarded Vetokele with a 5-year deal, which is the opposite of what he prefers to do with his head coaches as he explained yesterday.

Piotr Parzyszek signed a 4.5 year contract and Loic Nego a 5-year one, both of whom we have hardly seen. Whereas contract extensions for existing players have been only for one or two years. My only deduction is that Roland feels that these are players signed for the greater good of the ‘network’ and he will be able to move them around it if necessary, or if required.

Anyway, I have one for the conspiracy theorists. Why in the picture taken yesterday of Yoni Buyens does the pitch look like it is a long way from ready, yet today’s picture of Igor Vetokele shows a pitch looking like a snooker table? Clever those Belgians.

I wouldn’t be too surprised about the pitch, CA. Modern grass does grow frighteningly quick under the right conditions and when ‘encouraged’ to do so professionally.

Unlike the grass on my front lawn, which is giving way to moss quicker than the next news story out of the Valley!

I consider myself quite expert in new lawns – having read the back of a pack of grass seed in the Bexleyheath Sainsburys yesterday.

The sure start system from Westlands is coated in special minerals and germinates in 4 days. It also has some built in protection from bird attack. Typically its on special offer now – just too late to save RD a few quid.

Oh – and really pleased about Morrison – first name on the team sheet for me. (If played in the right position, marshalling the defence).
