Peeters in
Not much of a surprise nor the unheralded announcement. The official statement also mentions that José Riga and Karel Fraeye have also moved on. Nice.
Damian Matthews will stay though as part of Peeters coaching staff, and two others are expected to join him from Belgium.
No mention of a contract period for Peeters, who will be head coach. I wonder if we are now worthy of a bit of an explanation from Duchâtelet or Katrien Meire?
Peeters was Duchâtelet’s first choice after he decided not to offer Riga a longer contract. The Charlton job will be Peeters 4th managerial job in 4 years.
I hope that the new head coach doesn’t have any holidays planned because the job starts now, and one of his first tasks might be to meet Barnsley’s Chris O’Grady, who Duchâtelet has bid £500,000 for. The 28-year old striker has scored 21 goals in 59 games for the relegated Tykes.
More crucial than O’Grady is convincing Michael Morrison and Diego Poyet to stay. Damian Matthews staying around will hopefully help the situation. Dorian Dervite meanwhile joined the exodus when his Bolton move was confirmed.
There are an awful lot of Belgium ‘football fans’ on various social networks spinning Peeters arrival like the next messiah, nonetheless he starts with a clean slate with me and will have my unqualified support.

I can’t help feeling Riga was the best choice but RD is after a yes man; someone who will unquestionably select the players RD wants him to play.Fair enough though we have to give Peeters a chance before we cast judgement.
It’s difficult to imagine why Morrison and Poyet would think that staying at CAFC would be in their best professional interests. The direction of the club is uncertain and there are serious and as yet unanswered questions around the practicality of players being part of a network. Against that back-ground it will probably take more than a new pitch and a new unknown manager to persuade them to stay and I would be very surprised if they don’t move on.
