Hamer time

Time to leave for Ben, who signed for Premier League new boys Leicester City today on a free. Undoubtedly Leicester’s Thai owners would have paid handsomely for a 4-year contract, even if it is to mostly sit on the bench. The galling bit of course is the King Power Group would happily have paid a fairy sizeable fee if Ben was under contract.

Slater and Jimenez take the brunt of the criticism for the farcial contract situation that the club find themselves in, and rightly so, but equally Duchatelet had plenty of time to heed the advice he was given and at least attempt to tie in Hamer and others to an extended contract which would have given us some kind of transfer fee. It’s good governance if nothing else.

Ben was no Dean Kiely, but he was a good Championship keeper still improving and although prone to the odd blooper, earned us many points in his three seasons with us. He was likeable, popular and importantly the base of a spine that Powell carefully assembled, and which is now disintegrating at a rate of knots.

Good news for Danny Hollands who has signed a 2-year deal plus an option for longer, with Portsmouth after impressing on loan at the end of the season. Pompey have picked up a gem there.

Meanwhile Waasland-Beveren have denied that Bob Peeters wants to leave and will push on with their pre-season planning, whilst other Belgium media reported late yesterday that Patrick Van Houdt has left his role of assistant manager at KV Mechelen to join Charlton in the same role.

The Belgium media can’t get enough of the Addicks and soon enough we’ll be able to add Charlton to the list of Tin Tin, Eddy Merckx, Rene Magritte and Stella Artois to the list of famous Belgians!!
